One Click to launch Apps
Hi, Mee.
The actual screen to change to single-click launch has not changed since maybe Win95, but how to get to that screen has changed. In Win8.1, from the File Explorer Ribbon's View tab, click the far-right Options icon, then you should see the "Folder Options" screen, familiar from prior Windows versions. In the middle of the first (General) tab here, click the "Single-click to open an item..." While you are in Folder Options, I recommend you change a few more default settings. One of the first things I do when setting up a new Windows installation is come here and click the View tab. Then I click to "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and UNCHECK the box to "Hide extensions for known file types" (which SHOULD have been unchecked by default). I also uncheck the box to "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)", even though it says "recommended" and even though you'll need to insist that you really do want to do this. There are many other settings here that let YOU customize YOUR Windows to look and act the way YOU want, but each of us is an individual so I won't try to tell you how to set YOURS. But YOU should explore and test the options here until YOU are happy with the way YOUR system behaves. If you don't like the results, just come back here and change it back. If it gets too messed up, just click Reset Defaults and start over. RC -- R. C.
