Look in the main menu for Anytime Upgrade and see if it is still
available there. Every version is on the dvd, it's just the key that
determines the version. Anytime upgrade is just a new key. If not, you
will have to shop for the new version.

KenW

gonna be shopping for it.

If you can find one, make sure the company is ok.

Windows 8 is better than 7 if your hardware is up to snuff. The cpu may
be the main problem. My two netbooks with Atom processors were not up to
the job. Don't pay any attention to the start menu crap hype. I installed
Start8 on all 3 of my machines and never looked back.

Hi firestorm31,

Every single customer I have that has purchased Frankenstein (Windows 8)
hates it to the point of tears. If you are going to go the Frankenstein
route, you should probably wait till Son-Of-Frankenstein (w10) hits the
shelves. Without actually having Son-Of-Frankenstein in my hands to
say for sure, the previews I have seen look like a nice clean up.

I have Frankenstein and w7 on virtual machines. Frankenstein is a
slow, buggy, horrible mess. The best I can say about Frankenstein
is that it is "ill conceived". W7 is slow too, but not like
Frankenstein. (Whatever Windows work I have to do, I do in my two
XP virtual machines.)

If you need a Windows OS for a Desktop/workstation, go for w7.
If you want a tablet, seriously consider of the iPad.

By the way, if you are handy at remastering a DVD, the W7 disks
are all the same, except one line in one file. If you would like,
I will send you directions.

Why Ultimate and not Pro ?
- are you planning on using the additional features that Ultimate
provides ?

I would not be able to say that with a straight face.

Hi Char,
I can't believe I am agreeing with you. It is just not
right.

I think anyone who waits will be disappointed. It needs as much butchering
as 8 to make it usable on a desktop, and I can see no advantages whatever
over 8, and certainly none over Windows 7. It works OK when you have
modified it, but I'm not seeing anything that Windows 7 doesn't already do.

?
Have you investigated the difference in Windows 7 Pro vs Windows 7
Ultimate ?

Care to elaborate on what features you need to 'turn off' ?

This still isn't a nice table, but will give you
some idea what feature differences exist between versions.

http://archive.news.softpedia.com/ne...e-103766.shtml

For example, Ultimate would have Bitlocker for full disk encryption
of the C: partition. Pro would support WinXP Home mode under
Virtual PC. Domain join, would allow pushing out a GPO to set
a registry policy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_Policy [for domain supporting OS versions]

My own expérience shows that Win8 is more stable. I've installed (upgrade)
it over the top of Win7 and my machine has never freezed since then. I had
random freezes under Win7.

May be it's slow and buggy for you because it's on a virtual machine (I
don't know).

Of course YMMV
