Is there a way to set Num Locks so that they are always on?

Is there a way I can lock it to always on? Couldn't you teach her how to turn numlock back on? That was my thinking. As I said in my earlier post, it isn't that the customer doesn't know this (at least, I _assume_ she knows how to turn it back on), it's that she hits by mistake the key that toggles it, then carries on typing numbers, which results in your cursor being miles from where you thought it was (or worse). You're missing his point: she turns it off accidentally, so doesn't realise she has done so and continues typing; this can be very confusing, as your cursor can be on a line or even page other than where you thought it was, and you don't know what (or where!) you have typed/changed since you hit it. Knowing how to turn it back on doesn't tell you what you've done since. What? Aren't we talking about the working or non-working of the keypad number keys? Yes. Try this: open a text file in any editor (such as you might be using to post a followup to this post). Have your cursor in the middle of the text somewhere, now type 1995 say, as if you were typing the year. But, "accidentally" turn off num lock before you type the 1995. You will find your cursor is miles from where it was, and there's probably a spurious "5" somewhere unexpected too. Or are we talking about some kind of keypadless keyboard which has overlap of the keypad and regular keyboard? I think we need a better explanation of why it wouldn't be appropriate for a user to understand the toggling of the numlock. I think she does - she just would rather it wasn't _possible_ to turn it off, since she never has any desire to operate with it off. It seems to me that the accidental toggling of the insert key is more confusing than losing the numlock. You might find Insert Toggle Key https://web.archive.org/web/20131108...et/other.shtml useful; like the main toggle keys, it makes a beep when you accidentally hit the insert key. I _think_ it still works under 7. (OK, it doesn't _prevent_ such accidentally toggling, but at least you know you've done it.) -- J. P. Gilliver. She gets frustrated, keeps repeating the same mistake hoping it will clear up, freezes up the program, calls someone else for help. The other employees show her what she did wrong, she states how much she hates computers, and off she goes to do it again. I think she is fumble fingering the "7" and hitting the "Num Lock". People's computer skills differ. |

You have to make it as simple and stupid as possible. This one particular employee is absolutely amazing with the customers and knows the products like the back of her hand. She even get hugs from customers. The only downside is her inability to pick up computer skills. It is in EVERYONE's economic self interest to work with her. -T My base system is Linux. Cap Locks DRIVE ME CRAZY. I run /home/linuxutil/DisableCaplock #!/bin/bash setxkbmap -layout "$(setxkbmap -print | awk -F + '/xkb_symbols/ {print $2}')" -option ctrl:nocaps When ever I start up/log on. When I start up my Virtual Machines, the stupid hypervisor turns them back on. Drives me only a little nuts but I instantly know what happened. |

Hi Guy, I searched for hours looking for something like that. :'( It took a trip over to Virus Total first, then I installed on my W7Pro Virtual Machine. The Num Locks stays on permanently, regardless of it being pressed. Thank you! -T This is interesting, my num light flashes on and off and my base system switches back and forth. It is just the Virtual Machine that is locked. |

Replace keycap carefully while holding keyboard upside down so as to not spill juice. Wait until juice is fairly dry. Hand keyboard back to the klutz. As an "atom-bombing mosquitoes" level of fix it also works with those buffoons who like the caps-lock key. M. Super glue a thumb tack on it? She has long-ish fingernails and hit the num lock at the same time she hits the 7, or so I presume |

Use a free keyboard re-mapper - my NumLock is now Tab so I can do one handed entries in Excel. One should be able to make NL anything including "do nothing" 2. Find a small pill container or other plastic part and rubber cement it to the keyboard frame over the NL key. |
