It is dead! Laptop With HDD out

I suspect that the BIOS was messed with. I suspect that you have a hardware problem rather than a malware attack. So, is there a BIOS image app for the paranoid? Acer has released 12 BIOS upgrades for the Aspire 5552, the most recent 2011 Aug 8 is 2.14 Location of that http://global-download.acer.com/GDFi...C=ACER&SC=PA_6 From this page configured http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers That zip contains a readme and a dos and win directory; most of it expects something to be operating on the Acer other than dead, such as booting from a USB with at least a DOS or running an .exe with Win. However, apparently there is another mode using the .FD file which in this case is named XEWxx214.FD in the DOS dir which is described in a number of forum posts, like the following: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thre...9#post-9375269 Apparently just copying that to the USB and powering up the Acer with the Fn-Esc pressed might write to the BIOS. -- Mike Easter |
