MBAM v3.x ?
Anyone running Malwarebytes v3.x on Win7Pro/32? If so, do you have any
opinions on it? -- Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one. Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those newspapers delivered to your door every morning. |

I just did but on Win 7 64 bit. No big deal. It installed and it gives you a trial premium for ten days. |

After downloading what I think is the freeware 3.0.4.1269, I installed it. I saw no problems during installation. However, every time I try to launch it, it crashes. I have reverted back to 2.2.1.1043. I had to do the same. The 3.x trialware version cripples itself to the free version after only 14 days. It was crashing (Windows 7 Home x64). Users in their forums reported the same. Got rid of it. Went back to the 2.x free version. It got discarded quick so maybe their full product (trial) causes problems due to conflicts with other security software. They say they are compatible with other anti-viruses but users have found otherwise. https://forums.malwarebytes.org/topi...-known-issues/ https://forums.malwarebytes.org/topi...on-turned-off/ (read the rest of the forum posts to decide for yourself) https://www.askwoody.com/2016/micros...-malwarebytes/ https://support.malwarebytes.com/cus...ive-?b_id=6442 Microsoft must've immediately fixed this because I just looked and it is available at the catalog site with a date of 11/23/16 which is when Woody said it got pulled. Although I have MBAM 2.2.1.1043 (free version, so no on-access scanner), doing an update check does not have it detect there is a newer *program* version. The option to check for program updates when checking for database updates is enabled. So I'm not pestered with a prod to get the newer program version that I had problems with. |

Anyone running Malwarebytes v3.x on Win7Pro/32? If so, do you have any opinions on it? Well, I just installed it on XP MCE SP2 (32 bit) and it installed a service (a major no-no IMO). In fact, they've renamed the program to "Malwarebytes Service". It ran okay, but has a Windows 10 kind of look to it. Chameleon is gone. Overall, I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it and went back to the older version I was running. -- John Corliss |

So a link without a version usually reflects the latest version available from the vendor. Apparently Filehippo has not yet been updated. If and when that page gets updated to reflect v3 of MBAM, use the "Older version" links to get an older version. |

Yes, it's significantly different from the newer version: http://www.ghacks.net/2016/12/08/mal...ne-protection/ I looked around for an installer file for that version. When it comes to an anti-malware program, it's always better to get the installer from the source. I was able to find this installer at the Malwarebytes site: https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/u0b4k0fttttab6q2qqrw After you install it, you check for updates and it will update to version 2.2.1.1043. AFAIK, that's the only option available for going back to 2.2.1.1043. -- John Corliss BS206.
