Default Network Loss

Previously my network icons opened and showed a WiFi with Internet
connection active and a Cat5 LAN connection.
So I could see all things on my LAN and access the Internet.

Now I cannot see my LAN but I can see the Internet.
My LAN has NAS drives that I can previously access but not now.

I unfortunately did some Windows updates but I have no ideal if any of
those did me in but from now on I doubt I will install any windows
updated on any PC as all it brings is grief.
I will be doing complete backups so even if I get some a-hole messing
with my PC I can restore it.

How do I troubleshoot this lack of LAN (Cat5) access ?
