Many thanks,

There is this one.

Disclaimer: I have not read it nor can I attest to its

The TechReport study is a series of articles, and it's a lot of
fun to follow along as the study takes place. A couple of the
drives in their study, happened to last a lot longer than
their rating. But, using the TechReport study method,
by the time you discover which drives are superior,
they've been replaced by drives with a worse wear life
in the Flash chips.

And the TechReport study is not "statistically significant",
so is more for appreciation as an enthusiast, than as a
proper study.

I've looked into this several times over the years.
You'll find as many conclusions as there are authors.
Consensus seemed to be that:

If you need disk speed (not to be confused with the speed
at which you can surf the web), low power and/or shock resistance,
you should look into SSD.

If you USE your computer,
rather than TINKER and brag about how fast it boots, you should buy
a drive large enough so you don't actually use more than
half of it or so.
Run the system tweaks that came with the drive.
Back up regularly.
It will probably last longer than your ownership of the PC/laptop.

If you like to tinker, there are a zillion people to advise
you on further system tweaking.

I put a SSD in my desktop just because I got it cheap.
It seemed to boot faster, but I rarely reboot.
I couldn't see ANY significant improvement over the spinner
in daily use.

If you have low ram, the SSD might significantly improve the
speed if you swap to it. Unfortunately, that kills SSD's.
It's a very bad tradeoff.
Better to get more ram.

Bottom line is that my SSD is sitting in it's antistatic bag
in the drawer. Maybe I'll trot it out if I ever need a laptop
on a regular basis.

Sure, you can easily generate scenarios where SSD is very good
or very bad. I read that windows could destroy an SSD in a few
hours if you really tried.
