Can't Connect to Wi-fi Printer
Printer is a Canon MP620. It's been attached wirelessly for years to a
Win7 desktop, an XP desktop, and two Win10 laptops. At one time, it was also connected to a Win8.1 laptop, which I no longer have. Connection is made to a D-link wireless router. Starting a few days ago, when I try to print to the MP620, I get: "There are ports that cannot be used with their current settings." I get this message from all pcs when trying to print. I've searched online, and many have simply reinstalled the printer/driver, but mostly without success. The router is set up DHCP, The only item not listed under the Dynamic DHCP Client List is the Canon MP620, which is listed under the Static DHCP Client List. I never noticed this, and don't know why it's not under the DHCP list, but the IP assigned to it is within range, and the MAC address of the printer is correct. Anyone ever experience something like this, and know the fix? |

Anyone ever experience something like this, and know the fix? Can you hook up the printer to a computer via wire (Cat5 cable)? That would eliminate the wifi router and any problems it inflicts. Routers don't seem to last more than 3-6 years simply because they have crappy cooling (i.e., they fry themselves). A wired connection would also eliminate interference from other wifi devices. |

That's when they were getting your error string. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.p...inting.270664/ Paul |

The printer can't be connected to both a wifi and wired LAN at the same time. It's one or the other. To connect via ethernet, I'd have to set factory defaults (eliminates wifi), and then install ethernet connection. I have a Brother wireless printer working fine through my router, and while it doesn't exactly follow that the router is therefore also set up correctly to handle all wifi printers, I am going to first assume that the MP620 firmware has been corrupted, and reset to factory, and reinstall the wifi drivers. BTW, the MP620 prints fine under a USB connection. Routers don't seem to last more than 3-6 years simply because they have crappy cooling (i.e., they fry themselves). BTW, the MP620 prints fine under a USB connection. Well, Ireset the MP620 to factory, and reinstalled the wifi drivers. No luck. I then reset the router to factory, and reconfigured it. Still no luck connecting to MP620. As a matter of fact, All my wifi machines oould connect to the router, but I lost all internet capability. I had saved the config.bin for the router before I reset to factory, so I was able to reinstall it, and regained internet wifi connectivity. So, I'm back at step one. Solved. Or I should say fixed, because I don't know what went wrong, Why did all wifi LAN connections to the printer suddenly fail? What did fix it was to reinstall the drivers on all pcs (two Win10 laptops, and one Win7 desktop. All laptops are connected to the router via wifi, while the desktop, which sits right next to the router, is connected to the router via ethernet. The desktop does not have a wifi card, but it can print 'wirelessly' to the MP620 since the desktop is connected to the wifi router. I have two more desktops (XP) in remote rooms, one is connected both wirelessly and wired (I wired the house with ethernet many years ago), and the other is connected only with ethernet. Hope this goes well. |
