Vulnerability Scanner?
Hi All,
Do you guys know of anything like Kaspersky's "Vulnerability Scanner"? (Government contracts now specifically request that you NOT use Kaspersky products.) This is a badly named utility that comes with Kaspersky that will scan your programs looking to see if you are up-to-date. In other words, it will tell you if Firefox, Flash, etc. are out of date. Many thanks, -T |

Many thanks, -T McAfee has something similar. It can be set to run automatically at a specified period. And checks to see if all of your programs are up to date. Since you do not have McAfee, you may be able to get a free copy of McAfee from your ISP. It is available as part of The ATT's Uverse package, and may be available with any of the high speed packages. -- 2018: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |

Firefox (in Windows) is "streamed". If you install the Release version, the updater installs new Releases. if you install a Beta, you'll receive a lot of Betas one after another. There might be 5x as many Betas as Release ones. I recommend sticking with the Release stream, or alternately, turn off Firefox updates entirely. (When you have a version that seems to be working OK.) I'm not a big fan of every time I start Firefox, it starts installing something. I had a Firefox today, I went into Preferences and turned off the Updater. But little did I know the sneaky ******* had already downloaded 60.3. So when the UAC prompt appeared to start installing it, I said "No", causing the update package to fail, then tossed the Update folder in the trash. And that stopped it :-) The next time I started Firefox, it seemed unaware of a need to update. Paul |
