Default half a billion

Starwood hotels data breach affected half a billion customers. Really?
That many? Maybe they had a much smaller number of people stay there a
total of half a billion times.

Yes, I assumed it was the number of stays, not the number of individuals

really.

That many?

that many. maybe more. breaches are usually underreported, then later
'it's worse than we thought.'

Maybe they had a much smaller number of people stay there a
total of half a billion times.

no.

' approximately 500 million *guests* ', not stays.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/30/tech/marriott-hotels-hacked/index.html
Marriott says its guest reservation system has been hacked,
potentially exposing the personal information of approximately
500 million guests.
....
For 327 million people, Marriott says the guests' exposed information
includes their names, phone numbers, email addresses, passport
numbers, date of birth and arrival and departure information. For
millions others, their credit card numbers and card expiration dates
were potentially compromised.

Only the poor peasants are affected. Rich and royalty customers are
always using protected accounts.
