Default Can't make a video DVD disk.

i must be doing something wrong. I created the following
folders/files, using AVS4YOU on a MP4 video file:

VIDEO_TS.BUP 12KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 12KB
VIDEO_TS.VOB 11768KB
VTS_01_0.BUP 56KB
VTS_01_0.IFO 56KB
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,512KB
VTS_01_2.VOB 1,048,510KB
VTS_01_3.VOB 1,048,034KB
VTS_01_4.VOB 1,048,074KB
VTS_01_5.VOB 175,706KB

(If I copied things right)

I copy-pasted same to the DVD folder for a blank DVD disk, and then
wrote same on the disk. The disk plays fine on my PC. But not on my
DVD player - which does not recognize the disk at all.

What am I doing wrong please?

I don't know the technical details, but know it makes a difference
whether you choice the DVD option or the option that says something like
"do you want the disk to be accessed like a thumbdrive."

which I don't of course. I saw that option.

Did you burn the DVD using Windows DVD burning ?

If so, maybe the disc needs to be "closed" ???

The session might still be open. An open session
could **** off a DVD player.

If I burned a video DVD using Imgburn, the session
would be closed after the burning step was finished.
That's a difference between the "lets leave the session
open" method of the Windows built-in method, versus
the Imgburn "lets burn an ISO" method. When you give
an ISO to a regular burning program, it knows the
session is not to be left open.

Hmmm

I downloaded and looked at Imgburn, and its choices seem to be:
1) Write image file to disk
2) Write files/folders to disk
3) Create image file from disk
4) Create image file from files/folders
5) Verify disk
6) Discovery

I am used to burining ISO image files to disk. I don't think my video
files are image files. Am I wrong?
Anyway, I don't think I want choice 2. But then do I?
When I copy my 10 video files files to disk, am I really just doing a
data copy?
The rest of the choices seem not germain.

I am tired of wasting my dwindling supply of blank DVD disks. So what
should I do?
Thanks

BTW, you may be right about my write processes not being 'closed' at
finish. I don't recall getting such a choice.

A DVD player cannot cope with a collection of video files on an
otherwise blank disk.
It needs to be told what the files are, where on the disk they are and
how to play them.

You will have seen that a commercial DVD starts with just such a menu
allowing you to select scenes chapters and control playback etc.

You need to create such a menu using software such as DVD Flick

http://www.dvdflick.net/

I agree. But emboddied in the files I do have is such a atart menu.

You are placing the files in a folder directly below the root of the dvd
named "VIDEO_TS" I assume. It likely wouldn't hurt to also have a second
blank folder named AUDIO_TS also. I'm pretty sure all stand-alone DVD
players look for the movie contents only in the VIDEO_TS folder but
that's only because I've never seen any other layout on any movie disk.

Don't know what happens if you have "region" issues instead, e.g.
European movie on North Aerican player.

Unfortunately, I can't add much value to what everyone has already said.

Everyone gave good advice, where, my personal experience is all I can share
with the OP.

That is, when I burn video "files" to a "DVD disc", there are two
fundamental methods I use, both of which "play" in a PC, but only one of
which plays in a typical "dvd player".

Usually, it takes a bit of trial and error to make a "compatible" DVD.

Like almost all sane people, I use IMGBurn to burn the files, but I use any
decent free "DVD creation" tool to create the VIDEO_TS (and other) folders.

It has been a while since I've created and burned a DVD (usually from, oh,
normally, AVI files or MP4 files, with or without subtitle files), where,
looking in my archives, the DVD-creation tool of choice (for me) was...
C:\software\editor\brcddvd\{devede,dvdflick}

I realize the OP has, most likely, a "burning" issue, where I mention these
"creation" details for the benefit of all in the Usenet potluck we share.

You are trying to clever than what you are. Most people would watch
this video first:

It is for people who think they know it all when in fact they need
Step-by-step instructions but ashamed to ask. Mind you these people
think they know it all.

Most of my movie burning is using avi files as input. Nero Vision makes
it then trvial to create a movie dvd that always seems to play in stand
alone player.

I always like to provide a download link when suggesting software
so that the advice is actionable for many others on the team here.

Just to be clear, "burning" is different than "creating" a DVD, where, in
both processes, you can create two kinds of "DVDs"
o You can create a DVD that works in both DVD players & on a PC
o Or you can create a DVD that only works on the PC (not on a player)

One thing I've never understood is why people buy stuff that they can get
for free, where I'm sure Nero Vision works great, so let me see if I can
find the freeware at https://www.nero.com/enu/downloads/

Hmm. That web page is CONFUSING at first quick glance!
o Nero Platinum Suite
o Nero Video 2019
o Nero BackItUp 2019
o Nero Burning ROM 2019
o Content Pack 1
o Content Pack 2
o Nero LifeThemes PRO

Ok. Then comes the free stuff...
o Nero TuneItUp Free
o Nero MediaHome Free

Hmm. Not there. Moving on, they have Nero Mobile Apps
o DriveSpan App
o Nero Streaming Player App
o Nero Air Burn App
o Nero KnowHow App
o Nero MediaHome WiFi Sync App
o TuneItUp Cleaner & Booster App
o Nero BackItUp
o Nero 360 VR

Then, confusingly, again, they list "Free Nero Tools"...
o Nero CoverDesigner
o Nero WaveEditor
o Nero SoundTrax

Hm... why doesn't Nero Vision show up anyone in that Nero downloads page?

Obviously I can "find" it elsewhere, but why not on the Nero pages?
o https://nero-video.en.softonic.com/download
o http://www.brothersoft.com/nero-visi...oad-59644.html
o http://www.afreecodec.com/windows/ne...ion-31919.html

Many of those hits, by the way, were to worthless links, such as this
o https://download.cnet.com/s/nero-vision/

It's bad news to have to use non canonical software download pages.
Especially when there are multiple unrelated "nero vision" products
o https://softadvice.informer.com/Nero_Vision_64_Bit.html

Where is the canonical download to this Nero Vision tool anyway?

Did you burn the DVD using Windows DVD burning ?

Why not take an existing DVD you've prepared,
and just "find a recipe for closing a session" ?

You see, the DVD is not ruined, it just needs one more step.
See first post in thread below for inspiration.

My comment about Imgburn, was to show there are different kinds
of DVD programs. And the windows "need to close a session" is
just an extra step.

https://www.tenforums.com/general-su...-dvd-disc.html

"In Windows Explorer, click the disc burner drive,
and then click Close session on the toolbar.
[the burned disc should be in the drive!]

The session will be closed, so the disc can be used in other computers."

Since you already have the disc, it costs nothing to try :-)

It's called Finalizing.
The DVD won't play in a stand alone player until it has been finalized.
