Default Folder sharing issue on domain-joined Win10

I'm dealing with sharing a folder from a domain-joined Windows 10 PC.
The problem is that the firewall (stock Windows firewall) is blocking
access to the shared folder from other workstations. If Windows Defender
Firewall is turned off for domain networks the share works fine,
but that's not a good solution for obvious reasons. (Also Windows 10
incessently pesters the user to turn the firewall back on.)

I've checked that File and Printer sharing is enabled for domain networks
in the firewall and per some web searching tried adding a rule manually
to open up TCP port 445. Also tried adding predefined sharing rules via
the local group policy editor on the PC. Still no joy, the share cannot
be accessed from the outside unless the firewall is down.

This is not something I normally need to do - what mystical incantation
have I missed?
