Default Edge and Bing

I have Google as my prefered search engine - but sometimes operations open
Bing. I have tried to remove it but the only place to do it has it greyed
out.
Any ideas?

are you doing the searches in the title bar when it launches Bing?

Sure there is an easy way to change.ย* I'm assuming you are using the old
default version:

Microsoft Edge 44.18362.449.0

Microsoft EdgeHTML 18.18363

If this is so then you need to go to the google page
(https://www.google.com/)ย* and then go to your settings:ย* You will then
be able to change the default search engine.ย* The trick is you have to
be in the page of your search engineย* Say Google so that you'll see
something like this:

[ New Search Engine ] https://i.imgur.com/nUS1yTa.png

I think the button will say something like "New Search Engine
Discovered"ย* You can now change to it. Don't worry about the grey
colour.ย* It's not coloured correctly or you might have a different theme
as default.

Are you the same nm-shifter called John Doe.ย* My killfile has got a name
of John Doe so I was wondering how this post managed to get through.ย*ย* i
have about 4000 filters so clearly Thunderbird can't handle them.ย* I
need to weed out some old ones as the people might have died of Corona
Virus aka Chinese Virus or old age.

As you "refuse to use EDGE", you wouldn't know anything about it and yet
you are advising people about it.ย* How daft can people be these days!!!ย*
What do you gain by misinforming people?

We have a rogue trader by the name of T, Tiger and Todd&Margo who
doesn't use Windows 10 but he is quite happy to provide support to old
people and defraud them.ย* He knows nothing about Windows 10 but these
old people are defrauded by this rogue trader.

You wrote "sometimes operations open Bing" -- which operations?

If you ask the Windows operating system for help, it will launch a Bing URL
when it wants to do a web search. It makes no difference which web browser
you use, nor whether Bing is in your browser's list of search engines.

If you want to use Google, open your web browser to Google search page and
type the search terms into the Google search page.

Not all programs simply pass their URLs to whatever is designated as the
default handler for URLs. Instead they hardcode a call to a specific
web browser, like Edge. Unless the program offers a user-configurable
option to choose which web browser to use, or to just use whichever is
the default one, you're stuck with the behavior of that program.

Sorry, "sometime operations" give no clue as to how you are using a URL
or from within which program. "the place to [remove it]" was also not
specified, so no one but you knows where you attempted to change
behavior. When you ask a vague question, expect vague responses. We
aren't there looking over your shoulder to see at what you are pointing.

If you don't know how to detail the "operation" or "the place to do it",
take screenshots, edit them in MS Paint or your choice of image editor
to obfuscate any personal information, and upload to an online image
service (e.g., imgur) to give URLs here to your screenshots.

There are probably a few different controls for this.

https://www.howtogeek.com/224159/how...10-start-menu/

And your queries are likely to still get sent to Vortex
anyway, rather than to Bing. While you can interact with
the interactive part of search, the exfiltration of
information doesn't stop. Telemetry has a "minimal"
kind of setting, but never an "OFF" setting. Maybe the
military version of Windows 10 has it "OFF".

Win 10 has Bing as default clicking on a url. Bing is the default on
MS now and made it harder to get around. I refuse to use EDGE

Have you actually tried the new incarnation of Edge?

I don't know about KenW, but I've tried the new incarnation of Edge. I
dislike it as much as I disliked the old incarnation. As far as I'm
concerned, it's still the worst browser out there.

I use FireFox, but every now and then I run into a web site that won't
work with FireFox, and I have to switch to Edge.

He told you in no uncertain terms: "I refuse to use EDGE".ย* Now what is
difficult for you to understand in those 5 words?

He is very old now and he is not interested in anything new. It's just a
matter of time when he is no more here.

Isn't life strange. I have used every browser there is and had settled
on Samsung Internet on my phone and tablet and Vivaldi on my pc.
Since Edge became Chromified I use nothing else on all three devices.
It's fast and has the best of the others for me.

That's fine. If you're happy with it, that's fine with me. We all work
differently and have different likes and dislikes. Edge may be faster
than FireFox, but I don't care. To me what's much more important is the
difference in their UIs.

To me, what's important is their "attitude". I removed Edge off of the
desktop. I have never tried it. I got a Windows update this week that
celebrated a new version of Edge..I had to work rather hard to keep it
from taking over... I don't like Apple software either. It has a
similar "attitude". I'd prefer to choose the software I use, not the
other way around...
