Default Huge Windows XP Thace.log File

I don't know if this qualifies as a bug report item,
but it sure is bugging me. I am operating WINDOWS XP
Home Edition, and I have an 8.71 GIGABYTE trace.log
file. This file is located in \WINDOWS\system32\log
Files\WMI\trace.log. Is it safe to remove this file? If
so, how do I remove it? Are there any steps I can take
to prevent this file becoming so large in the future?
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
