Default IE 6.0 takes too long to start!

OS: WinXP
IE: 6.0.2800

When I start IE, it takes up to 4 minutes to open the home page,
saying, "Detecting proxy settings.."

Why? Is there any way I can make it faster?

I forgot to mention other things:

WinXP --- WinXP Pro
LAN: DSL with D-Link DI-704 gateway
I don't think I've had any proxy server installed unless WinXP Pro has
a built-in one.

By the way Netscape 7.02 starts at a lightning speed
