Default print screen key, and/or capture screen programs

i have been able to capture screens, under Full DOS,
using Win 98 SE, but now have Win XP home ed., and can't
even use print screen key properly. used to be able to
use prtscr key, then paste to paint.

is there a solution? I use an application GEOEAS that
goes to Full DOS and i have tried over 15 screen capture
last night, and the best i could do was capture the black
background but no text or graphs.

or do i have to install Win 98 SE ??? the puters at the
university use Win 98 and i can use prtscrn and then
paste to paint.
