is there no solution??
Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing on my computer. No task
manager, no windows security, nothing. Task manager is enbabled because I can type taskmgr in the run bar and it brings it up. Turning off the welcome screen won't help because that just makes it to where you can bring up the Windows Security box instead of Task Manager by hitting ctrl+alt+del. My computer doesn't even bring up the task manager by hitting ctrl+alt+del. There are no viruses on my computer. have ran 3 different scans. It may not be a big problem but I'm just worried that it is a symptom of a bigger problem. thanks! |

Hello
It is possible that you are infected by a virus, if your virus scan definitions are not update then it will not detect a virus. There are virus' out there that prevent the Task Manager, IE Properties, System Config. Utility, ect, ect. Try some of these scans. (free) http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9913 or http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Download, Update and Run Adware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ The thing most people do not know is that after they buy a computer with virus protection installed they have to go in and register and download the updates and continue to update it or set it to auto update then after a period of time the subscription will run out usually in 90-180 days at that time they will have to purchase new protection either online or from a retail store and at that time they will be able to update for a period of 365 days (1 year). -- Hope This Helps Haus Not a MS-MVP Not a MVP Not nothing, just a good ole boy. wrote in message ... I've stayed current with my Norton anti-virus, Windows
updates, etc. I've even ran the McAffe program. Nothing found. My task manager will work, just have to type taskmgr in the run line. Must be a glitch in the software of something. thanks anyway! -----Original Message----- Hello It is possible that you are infected by a virus, if your virus scan definitions are not update then it will not detect a virus. let's pretend it's not a virus. Any other suggestions?
Besides turning off the welcome screen. Hello
In that case I would suggest doing a repair install, you might have other issues that have not come forward or that you have not found, doing a repair install is easy and should not doing any damage to your existing personal files, it is a good idea to backup all the important information just in case. To do a repair install you will need your XP cd (restore disks will not work) http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm Complements of Michael Stevens -- Hope This Helps Haus Not a MS-MVP Not a MVP Not nothing, just a good ole boy. wrote in message ... is there no solution??
apparently, there is no solution. Everyone keeps saying
it's probably a virus. It's not. I keep up with my updates and I routinely run virus checks. Then, turn off the welcome screen, it's not that either. If that was the problem, then at least ctrl+alt+del would bring up the task manager. It won't. BUT, the task manager does work. I just have to go about it a different way (typing taskmgr in the RUN line). I guess I'll reset all the factory setting and see what that does. -----Original Message----- let's pretend it's not a virus. Any other suggestions? Besides turning off the welcome screen.
