Is there supposed to be a balance control on the sound control dialog? If so, how do
I get it to show? Win XP Pro, SP3.

Thanks, Mike

That's the one. No balance there. And it's not in the options|properties list. I can
choose front, rear, center, side, but no balance.

You sure we're talking about the same thing? I've got balance controls
for every input.

Here's another way to find it: Start Run type the following in the box:

%SystemRoot%\System32\sndvol32.exe

and click OK.

Pretty sure. You can also access the control by double clicking on the speaker icon
on the System Tray. if you have it there.

I thought balance SHOULD be there, but nooooooooooo........

There is also the sound card's app (Realtek HD Audio Manager) but nothing there either.

Hi Mike,

I don't have Realtek HD, but SoundMAX on this computer, and Realtek AC97 on
another, so I cannot directly compare mine with yours, but here are some of
the things that might have a connection with your problem.

Right-click Volume icon in SysTray, click Properties.
In Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, Volume (tab)
Under Speaker settings,
click Advanced (tab) for Advanced Audio Properties
On the Speakers (tab), is Speaker Setup mono, stereo, or other?
Close (OK/Cancel) that last dialog panel

Under Speaker settings,
click Speaker Volume (button)
Are there two sliders for Left and Right?
Look below for,
[ ] Move all slide indicators at the same time
Is that checked? (Mine is not.)
Close (OK/Cancel) that last dialog panel

Under Device Volume (on Volume tab),
click Advanced (button) for Volume Control
On menu bar, click Options, click Properties
select Playback (dot in circle), click OK
You should see leftright Balance sliders, and up|down Volume sliders.
Close Volume Control

In Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, click Hardware (tab)
In Devices, click your Audio Device (Realtek), click Properties (button)
Device status should say: This device is working properly
Click Properties (tab), check Properties of each of those.

If you can access the Realtek manager, click the Mixer tab, and check all
the settings. In the OUTPUT (or Playback?) section look for a right
pointing V arrow (.. ) and click several times to see hidden things.

HTH. (Hope This Helps.
