Default I would like to connect my work XP Pro laptop to my home computer

I have a stand alone XP Pro desktop with multiple users
and I would like to
connect my XP Pro laptop to it.
The laptop at work is part of a domain.
When I go to Net work ID and change it into a workgroup
computer I loose the
password and the domain.
Can I have a domain and a workgroup?
If so how?
I want to access files and Internet on my laptop using a
small network
(Swiching hub)

Regards
Barry
