Ask in the XP newsgroup (-: [I've crossposted and set followup] The OP picked the wrong newsgroup: Windows instead of Office. Then you also pick another wrong newsgroup which to cross-post and rudely tried to change focus to your choice of newsgroup. KB2883029 covers Windows XP, Vista, 2003, and 7. KB2965282 applies to a specific version and service pack level of MS Office. Both updates target MS Office, not Windows. Don't rudely force someone's discussion elsehwere that you *think* is more appropriate. Even more rude is you trying to steal focus of the discussion in the other newsgroup by using the FollowUp-To header. That's the behavior of a troll (which I ignored in my reply but retained the cross-posting only for this subthread). You are not a troll but delving into their behaviors reflects badly upon you. Kindly suggest. Don't rudely push. |

I'm curious as to why you didn't suggest that a better place to refer the poster, instead of a redundant Usenet group - microsoft.public.windowsxp.general - is www.answers.microsoft.com Microsoft hasn't supported Usenet groups for what? Five or so years? What was your reason VanguardLH? Readers would like to know! |

If me, then (a) I didn't know about the 'group you mention, and (b) the XP 'group isn't redundant (see below). Microsoft hasn't supported Usenet groups for what? Five or so years? I can't remember; however, that doesn't make them redundant! "Worried" started his post with "Windows XP"; that 'group (which has similar traffic levels to the 7 one - it certainly isn't redundant) is quite likely to have a better chance of answering his query than an alt. 'group for Windows 7 (which Microsoft also doesn't support). I left the W7 'group in my followup so "Worried" could see my post, since I assumed he didn't know about the XP 'group. It seems to me that you were trying to help someone, for which you should have been commended, not chastised, John. :-) I confess I was somewhat surprised that you were not familiar with Microsoft Answers - the *official* Microsoft Forums! No matter. |

No matter. I don't have a lot to do with official Microsoft these days. I don't consider them as evil as many (especially on the older 'groups like XP) do, but I certainly don't see eye to eye with them as they exist now, and also I find their website(s) rather hard to use.
