Default Nec CD & HP CD Writer 9500i...Disabled Device

Hi,

Jason Tsang MVP wrote:

Goto http://www.aumha.org/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver
is missing or non-operational, the registry patch will
delete the filter drivers references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps
displayed at this website in addition to removing some
drivers that may have been used by older versions of Easy
CD Creator that are known to cause problems with WinXP.

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31,
Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD
Creator in Windows XP

Hope it helps.

-----Original Message-----
Some time back, both CD-ROM & CD-RW seemed to be working
for the most part at 100% on XP Home edition upgrade.
Whatever was done or transpired, both CD-ROM and CD-RW
drives have been "Disabled Device" in Device Mgr. Both
are listed under DVD/CD-ROM drives; NEC DV 5700a with a
yellow symbol, and HP CD Writer 9500+ with a yellow
symbol. Status: Windows cannot start this hardware device
because its configuration information ( in the registry )
is incomplete or damaged ( Code 19 ).
I did a software Uninstall, and reboot. XP finds the new
hardware, but keeps coming up with the error message that
devices are disabled due to the above.
What is a fix for this? Should I physically remove the
two drives from the PC and reboot; shutdown and
physically re-install one at a time.
I have gone to the HP website for new drivers, with no
effect.
Tks ...
.
