Angry maxtor sata hhd installation

I have a msi k9n sli platinum motherboard with 2gig of mem, 6sata slots, 1 ide. I am trying to install a maxtor 300 gig sata drive and I need some help. Every time I try to install using window xp pro, I get a new error message. Should I install a ide hard drive, then install the sata drive.

Suggestions?

Default maxtor sata hhd installation

Follow the instructions that came with the SATA drive and which you can also
find at the Maxtor website. Maxtor include very good documentation in their
products... but they do assume you will read it before trying to install.
