Default XP SP2 Problems on several machines

I've now tried the SP2 install on 3 different machines with various problems
and been forced to restore all 3. After the install on 2 of them, Add/Remove
programs only showed the first 25 entries when sorted by name, the first 34
when sorted by frequency - interesting. The 3rd showed NOTHING in
Add/Remove. AVG Anti-virus not picked up by Security center until I removed
and re-installed it. Intermittent FTP connection errors. Outlook 2003 SP2
intermitently will not find one of three mail servers. Many programs
auto-update features no longer work, including Adobe apps, Topo! mapping, Ez
CD 7, eMachineShop among many others. Was able to get all working after
completely turning off firewall.

Here are the problems, in addition to the above mentioned:

Machine 1 - eMachines M6805, AMD Athlon 64, 768mb RAM, XP Home, 28 gb free
Explorer hangs on shutdown every time. 6:05 boot time, very poor overall
performance, out of system resources messages, video corruption when
attempting to start EA software or Autodesk 3DS. Card reader no longer
works. Mouse disappears after any full screen application, unplus and replug
external USB mouse and it returns. Automatic Updates tray icon appears, hung
at 0% for 6 days, tried turning off for a couple of days and doing manual, no
change.

No option for uninstall, tracked down reg key and uninstalled "successfully"
as it appears that some "features" including new Automatic Updates, do not
uninstall, mouse problems persist. Wireless drops and reconnects every 6
minutes. Machine will neither hibernate nor suspend. Power management
appears to not be working at all.

Machine 2 - Intel D875PBZ, 3.2 GHz P4, 2 GB RAM, ATI AIW 9800, Logitech
Cordless MX Duo, 2 x 160GB Hitachi SATA drives, Plextor PX708A DVD+- drive.
All drivers updated and current.

Explorer hangs on startup intermittently. Extended keyboard functionality
no longer works. TV Tuner fails to init on 1 of every 3 boots, video
capture drops audio and intermittent video frames. Machine will not go to
suspend. DVD burns from either Sonic MyDVD or EZ CD 7 result in DVD
unplayable on either of my set top players, play fine on the PC.

Machine 3 - A7N8X-Deluxe V2, XP3000+, 1 GB RAM, 2 x 200GB WD2000JB, ATI AIW
9600 Pro, Microsoft Intellimouse Wireless Explorer w/tilt, Plextor PX704A
DVD+- drive.

Explorer fault on shutdown. Tilt on mouse no longer works. Video capture
is consistantly choppy. DVD problem same as machine 2. Color matching
profiles for Epson R300 and Canon S9000 no longer appear to be used, reloaded
no change. Completely unable to uninstall SP2, restored image.

I tested and had the many of the same results with the RC's and hoped that
these would be resolved. Office SP2 cured most of the Office issues, but I
haqd to upgrade MapPoint 2000, Streets and Trips 2004, Visual Studio, Encarta
2003 and Publisher 2000 to get any updates to work at all. I would expect
that at least MS apps would be functional after SP2, but it does not appear
that older versions were a concern.

Has anyone else experienced any of these problems, or have any potential
solutions?
