Default "New Hardware found", but printer already installed!

Yep, sounds just like my HP 3100 all-in-one. Since going
to XP, Jetsuite "wizard" has vanished, computer sometimes
fails to recognize printer, Hp fax software does not see
paper in document feeder, and I get the message you
mention @ startup. I am using the HP-supplied software
disk updated for XP. It really did not do the job. HP
tech support for this is worse than worthless. Thinking
about going to fax software contained in XP.
-----Original Message-----
Have seen this problem on 2 pc's now (one in a client's
home, the other at a relative's house). Both run XP
Home, both have an HP variety printer attached.

One is using the drivers provided with XP, the other has
HP drivers provided direct from HP on a new driver CD
made specifically for XP.

Both get a message in the system tray upon startup
saying "Found new hardware, HP (model#)" and attempts
toinstall new hardware. Both end up getting a system
tray message saying "problem installing new hardware."

Both pc's already have the printers installed and have

no
trouble printing.

This annoying message just keeps popping up and we can't
get rid of it. Tried uninstalling the printers and re-
adding. Tried unplugging printers from the computer,
cold boot, etc.

Any tips?
