Who's gonna translate webpages from HTTP websites into plain text and
post them into NNTP Usenet? I don't see any robot doing that!

You said "I just wanna read text!". You didn't say you wanted to read
HTTP.

Do you know what "proxy server" is? Do your private R&D with Linux!

Don't almost all browsers have the ability to block video & images?

As for proxies, for the OP, what's wrong with the standards?
o Epic Privacy Browser
o Opera VPN Browser

And maybe even these (which are more than proxies):
o Brave Tor-enabled browser
o Tor Browser Bundle

In short, I'm not exactly sure what the OP wants, but I didn't even see the
OP's post until JP Gilliver responded to it (the OP is in my killfile for
some reason that I don't remember, probably due to past off-topic posts
perhaps), where I would ask the OP to simply set up Epic (which is faster
than Opera in most cases in my experience) to not show any images or
videos.

Wouldn't that alone instantly give the OP exactly what he asked for?

VPN has NOTHING to do with content blocking!!! I wanna auto-magically
block all images, videos and audios while keeping the text in the web-pages!

Well, two decades ago there where some open CoDeeN open proxies
available for the masses which excluded images and other binair
content, but I truly doubt if they are still in use.

You can create a new profile in your Firefox in order to avoid all
graphic content, but it's a lot of work and not a exactly an private
solution. (kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows)

Maybe you should visit portableapps.com and search for text-based
browser in the application section, but those browsers doesn't
JavaScrypt nor Socks4/5 instantly. (app's such as Lynx and Links)

Hope this helps.

He doesn't just want local (to him) softwa he wants something remote
from him, presumably so he can look at things his local provider blocks.
(If he just wants a text-only browser, there are a few - Lynx is a name
that springs to mind.)

Q. How much is 2 + 2?
A. Thank you so much for asking your question.
Are you still having this problem? I'll be delighted to help you. Please

No, because I don't wanna set up picture-blocking proxy server myself.

I know Linux, I know Squid, and it's tedious to do the dirty job.

Thank you for the relevant input! I don't understand why governments
worldwide don't enforce a plain-text version of all websites. Really
curious about this.... it really saves a lot of time and old hardware.

Use the "Lynx" web browser, which is text only by design.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_%28web_browser%29

On the left in this picture is Lynx, on the right is the
Firefox representation of the same web page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_%..._rendering.png

There are forks of "Lynx" that go by different names.

One reason why the usage of proxy servers is in-advisable,
is because you can get "stale" web pages from such systems.
You don't want to get weather reports from a proxy, because
if there is a typhoon, cyclone, or hurricane warning, you
want fresh, up-to-date information. And there is a remote
danger the report via proxy, will be out of date.

I've had a number of instances, where my government weather
site didn't "refresh" properly, and I didn't see a warning
in time. Don't complicate matters in such cases, by
throwing a proxy into the path!

Under those circumstances, one should stop any proxy or SOCKS servers. I
was only talking about routine news reading. Good reminder anyway!

That would be nice! But it's highly unlikely, because:

o most politicians don't understand it well enough for that
o the few that do, have no incentive to pass such legislation (and if
you're cynical, are susceptible to pressure from those who have reasons
to be against it).
