Firefox sub-folders in bookmarks, but those sub-folders are created by you for putting your bookmarks in. -- Kind regards Ralph |

Thanks for the reply, Ralph, but i meant the physical sub-directory -- however many levels down -- under the Users sub-directory on the Disk. I have reason to edit the contents of one of the files......... |

I have reason to edit the contents of one of the files......... How big are the files in the old scheme ? Are they just a file with a single URL inside, or is the search file a .xpi (a plugin of some sort) ? All I've been able to find so far, is some URLs for DuckDuckGo etc. That can't be all there is to it. That's not complicated enough. Paul |

I have reason to edit the contents of one of the files......... Ever since Firefox 45 (March 2016), the search engines have been stored in a single file ("search.json.mozlz4") and not a folder. You cannot edit the contents of search engines in this file. This change was made to provide better protection against search hijacking, but it also prevents you as well as sneaky programs from altering search engines. I have heard said that the below works (or worked at one time), but I have never tried it so I cannot confirm. It does require you to have a backup copy of your search engine xml files. * Exit Firefox; * Delete the file search.json.mozlz4; * Create a new searchplugins folder and put a copy of the xml files in it; * Restart Firefox. -- Kind regards Ralph |

, wrote mozlz4 is a lightweight compressor, which borders on obfuscation rather than compression. It only exists to make a nuisance. I viewed it in hex and it looked like a bit of a potpourri, which would serve the purpose of keeping people away from it. FACE |
