When the final version of SP2 for Windows XP becomes
available, would users without an genuine version of the
operating system still be able to install the update?

It's my understanding that SP2 will NOT be looking for non genuine OS's.

Same restrictions as Sp1. If the CD Key is in the "banned list", it will
not install.

Hi,
the exact date has not yet announced by MS,although you will find lots
of probable dates/months in various third party websites-various reports
suggest not before July.RC2 is yet to release.

Not date set yet. Just a period (July-August-Sept.)

RC 2 is to be release June 14.

Looks like 4Q for SP2 Final.

drum118:

Where did you hear June 14?

Per Google:
"Update: 2148 was just released for certification testing and the release
day has been pushed to June 11.
Stay tuned for further updates."

I'm a firm believer that for any OS you are using you need a real CD for
it. My opinion also excludes the proprietary os cds you get from many
big brands which I dont like.

Again, just an opinion. I dont like fake steak or mystery meat. I like a
real steak.

I have the real thing and it was given to me by MS at one of their meetings.

I never had this problems in all the years of reformatting and reinstall any
OS. Always keep my data on other partitions as it is easy to blow away the
OS and other programs during testing and not worry about it and do backup on
it.

I have never had to backup my music that have been transfer off LP to MP3.
Never seen this before.

MS just gave me a CD for RC1 SP2 when I already DL it last week.

We are speaking of Windows XP, not RC1-SP2. That said, why all of this:

I never had this problems in all the years of reformatting and reinstall
any
OS. Always keep my data on other partitions as it is easy to blow away the
OS and other programs during testing and not worry about it and do backup
on
it.

I have never had to backup my music that have been transfer off LP to MP3.

What does it pertain to?

I have the real thing and it was given to me by MS at one of their
meetings.

Which meeting? Did I see you there?

MS just gave me a CD for RC1 SP2 when I already DL it last week.

The download has been available for a great while to the public.

Way back when I met a *girl* in a rock club. Danced, slow danced, the
works. However..

Needless to say this *girl* had some extra parts on *her* when we got
back to my place.
