I sent that link (above) in your reply, in an email, to my ham friend.
He acknowledged that he received my email, but I have not heard from him

You WONT hear from him. He dont want to be part of your illegal software
piracy. He probably likes his freedom, unlike YOU, who will soon be in
prison.

There is absolutely NOTHING illegal about owning software you
purchased.

Only a fool gives M$ their hardware and personal details,
which is what online registration is all about. There is NOTHING about
handing over your data on the XP contract. You bought it, it's yours.

Unlike Win 10, which is rent-ware, and who's TOS states quite
openly that all your DATA is THEIRS. Set aside a month and read it - a
month should be enough if you are a fast reader and are fluent in
Filthy Legalese.

When you activate you can leave the registration data blank or just
make stuff up. I bet Harry Balz has hundreds of copies.

Even if there is still support for "ACTIVATING" WinXP after you install
it. MS Activation Support WILL END some day. Then what?

Some of us may want to continue using WinXP, after replacing
a bad HDD (example), then install WinXP, which will need to be
"ACTIVATED".

Image your drive frequently (including any hidden partitions). Then you
can restore to a new HD. Much quicker than installing, activating,
reinstalling all your software, and then tweaking it all to how you like
it. I did this with an OEM system (to a somewhat larger HD, too), and
didn't require any activation. (I used the free version of Macrium 5,
booted from a mini-CD, to make and restore the image; however, I suspect
all the alternatives - Acronis, EaseUS, etc. - work just as well.
[Backup your data partition too - I use SyncToy for that.])

Hi,
I wasn't actually speaking for myself ("Some of us may..."). Note: I
have my own Back Up "system" that will work on my current old computers after
Activation Support comes to an end, if I replace the HDD (example).

However, my BU "system" will NOT "work" if I get another old computer.

The real issue involves the hardware signature XP stores. You need to
go through the server to get it to run on another machine, even if you
can get the drivers right. The last one I did was a HD swap from a
Celeron to a dual core Intel and it would not even boot in safe mode
to fix the drivers. When I swap in more similar machines and fix the
drivers, I still get the nag message about authentification.
My bet is someone would sue them if they removed that service. I would
join in the suit. We bought this software and there was no expiration
date listed on it. I would run some version of Linux before I ran 10
