Default Activate WinXP without the Activation Key

Hi,

Note: I heard that MS no longer supports activation of WinXP.

A ham friend of mine found a procedure on the Internet for
"activating" WinXP without the activation key. I think he said
he found it at "Wiki".

At first it seemed like his WinXP was "activated", but later
he saw a notice about 7 days remaining. He advanced the
date past the expiration date and re-booted the computer. Now he can not
use the OS unless it is activated, he told me.

Does anyone know of a method that actually "works"?

Thank You in advance, John N3AOF

John,

Maybe the oldest trick in the book will work ?

Boot some kind of OS (even DOS) and set the clock forward 20 years or so.
Than wipe the disk and reinstall XP, after which your friend again applies
his method. Wait until you see that "7 days remaining" message again, and
turn the clock back to this year.

Hey, if moving the clock forwards makes Windows think the time expired,
there is some reason to believe the opposite also works.

Also, keep looking for downloads of XP. If with a bit of luck you'll find a
version which does not need to be activated (probably contains some kind of
volume licence).

https://sourceforge.net/projects/xpy...butable/1.3.8/

You want the "bin" file.
Under the "general" tab

"Claim Windows as registered".
There are other tweaks too, but that is probably the most useful one
for offline use.

Since WinXP is the first OS to use network activation, we
don't have a precedent yet for end-of-life activation server
behavior.

I installed WinXP a couple months ago (to try to fix a problem),
and the activation was still working then. I didn't have
a problem with it.

Note that sometimes the HTML components of WinXP OS may
mis-behave (server side changes cause MSHTML engine
to not work properly). In an attempt to get the user to install
a more recent version of Internet Explorer. It all depends
on what kind of error you're getting, as to what you should
do next.

I wouldn't look for an activation hack, unless I'd given
it a good honest try first and the server really was dead.
If they switch off that server, it *will* be a news item.
You'll read about it, in an industry starved for news.

Microsoft does have some support options for activation
issues, even if it means going to the Answers forum or
something. There is a tool which provides basic background
info about your install, as a means to help debug
activation issues.

MGAdiag
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

Do a google looking for MGAdiag output examples, for
more info on what you should find.

*******

Apparently on other OSes, there are different tools.
This would collect two files, if a Microsoft helper
needs to see them.

Licensingdiag.exe -report %userprofile%\desktop\report.txt -log %userprofile%\desktop\repfiles.cab

You are a complete and utter idiot. Microsoft has opened up its servers
and XP can activate just fine. Why the **** do you want to phone
Brazil? Are you looking for drugs? Ask a Canadian drug dealer who will
gladly give you free.

For activation, the servers aren't checking anything. They just work
using the same serial number on 100 different machines. No checking is
done. Microsoft isn't bothered with XP anymore.

You better take your Canadian drugs quickly.

Offline ? Show me the way ....
M$ specifically asked people using XP to NOT go online, because "it's
no longer safe".

No, I live here. This is an international group and the US is only
four point something % of the world's population. Why on earth would
you think I'm American ?

Hype to sell product. M$ is not making any money if you don't upgrade.

If it is no longer safe then why are they using XP? What is the point
of having a computer if you can't go online? All the business these
days is conducted online!!

You are American because you are mentally deranged. Are you also fat
smelly people that foreigners stay away from?

I use mine for editing, debugging and watching
movies/listening to music... some pRoN too.
There must be a reason, the % of users using XP has actually
increased over the last few months .... maybe because it's faster than
7, 8 or 10 ?

I probably have the same ancestry as most Americans (Northern
Europe), so you might have a point there.

No, I think you mean the Scots. They never have baths and use
skirts. Weird people. But as I said, I'm not a foreigner, I'm
Brazilian (just so it sinks in).
