Default RegWizExe encountered a problem

Hi,

My attempts to use the Microsoft Online Windows XP Registration Wizard have
met with a failure by RegWizExe at the very end of the process. Is this
important? I heard that it is dangerous for a new installation to be
unregistered after 30 days. The wizard gives links to error report files.
Errors reports for checksum errors make me fear that my installation media
may be faulty and I may have a bum install already my sound is not working
but I think that may be a separate problem. I have installed Windows XP
Professional on a Dell Inspiron 5100 for which there was a registered
version of WinXP Pro.

Regards,

n

I just discovered that Microsoft announced that support for Windows XP ended
July 31, 2010. Maybe that is why the registration wizard fails.

Perhaps you are confused with the two terms: Registration and Activation.

Registration is *not* obligatory and it is not "dangerous". Activation
is obligatory especially if you are using a Retail version or OEM
version of Windows XP. If you don't activate then YES after 30 days you
will be locked out.

So please activate your copy immediately so that you don't have to start
everything again after lockout.

Norm,

You are incorrect. Support for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista without
service packs ended on 31 Jul 2010. Support for WIndows XP SP3 will
continue into 2014.

Read Tester's reply to learn why you are having a problem.
