Default Can I reset to a previous backup date?

Once a tech told me that I could reset my computer to the
conditions of a previously backed-up date. I think I
actually need to do this now. I cannot open any .exe
files (including Norton Antivirus). My thinking is that
if I reset to a previous day whatever happened will be
fixed.

Am I thinking correctly? Can someone help me reset?

This is known as System Restore and what it does is restore the system,
meaning system settings to a time prior to when things presumably went
wrong. In order to do so, go to Start\All Programs\Accessories\System
Tools\System Restore, then follow the screens.

Of course, this is the point when our friend here learns that SR's been
turned off! ;o)

Or worse, it was turned on but the SR file store is corrupt, hence he
receives a message that System Restore failed.:-)

I'm an eternal optimist, I'm hoping for the best for our friend.

I am no expert but I think what you want to do is a system restore. To do so: click "start" "all programs" "accessories" "system tools" "system restore". From there, select "restore my computer to an earlier time", click "next". Then select a reto
re date and follow prompted instructions. However, before doing a system retore I suggest you read up on it so you understand what a system restore will do to you computer.

That's what I love about you, Mike - forever the optimist. It
counterbalances my pessimism. ;o)
