I agree. People haven't mastered the Kurt Lewin's three-step change
management model developed in the 1950s. This can very well be adapted
to software industry if implemented properly.

Unfreeze Change Refreeze

From XP Microsoft went to Vista then Win7 and now Win8.

Between Vista and Win7 there wasn't much difference. People were simply
not prepared to learn its new interface otherwise it was identical to
XP. Win7 and Vista is almost identical. People accepted it because of
better documentation, training packages and online help. Windows 8
should be the same and Microsoft needs to produce better documentation
and provide free training sessions like they did with XP. I remember I
attended Microsoft XP training session in Central London and we were all
given freebies of XP disks and serial numbers and goody bags containing
Microsoft's Windows XP Resource Kit book. There was also a 50% discount
voucher to get Office 2003 book.

Of course not.

I gave up trying to write software
for Linux as nobody wants to pay for it.

If you could write something similar to Outlook that uses HTML properly
and does multiple signatures, I bet you could sell it to corporate users
and some home or small business users. Evolution was a failure but they
tried ...

The money in Linux is in tech support more than anything else.

And tax and accounting software.

Also, hardware manufacturers should create Linux drivers and put them in
disks with the hardware and available online on their website. There
should also be a database of all hardware and their Linux drivers which
people can search for and download.

There is no point in creating malwares for Linux because not many people
use it. Malware writers will have a better target rate if they spend
time on Windows system knowing that it is where money can be made; Not
on Linux users who are not likely to be using Linux for any serious

Why? They have in the past and lost money on all of the development
costs. So you believe developers should do things to lose money?
Manufactures from time to time even try to sell Linux machines with
drivers they created. Problem always have been they just don't sell.
Even WalMart even tried to sell Linux models for a short time and nobody
wanted to buy one. Linux users just want everything for free, even the

It is very difficult to write malware for Linux. Actually it is
currently impossible to get malware on Linux without confirmation.
Heck they can't even install toolbar for any browser

It isn't that hard at all and the more you use it, the more it makes a
lot of sense. Doing it otherwise would have been more
counterproductive.

Lots of things are better under 8 compared to 7. The Task Manager, file
transfers, SSD support, Performance Monitor, On Screen Keyboard, Hybrid
Sleep, faster booting, etc. are all better.

Faster booting before the 8.1 update. I used to be able to push the
power button and be typing in the Google Chrome search bar in 45 seconds
(same as my Windows 7 machine with a hybrid HDD) now it takes anywhere
from 1:30 to 1:45+ depending on the weather. Reboots are 3 minutes plus!

Wow, really? Why? I just checked mine and 20 seconds to shutdown and 10
seconds to boot. And this one has all of the updates.

Google "Windows 8.1 update slow boot". Some people that updated to
Windows 8.1 from 8 are getting a black screen and it never boots.

10 seconds to push the power button, open Chrome, and start typing? I
find that hard to believe, especially if you are using a SATA HDD.

Just off of the top of my head here are a few reasons I like Windows 7
better than Windows 8.1.

Boot and reboot time

I don't know why yours is that way.

Don't need a 3rd party start button/menu (no biggie really), but still

I don't need or use 3rd party Start either. I can use Windows 8 just
fine without them.

Many people including myself prefer a traditional start menu.

No media center (home edition)

I have the Media Center. I bought Windows 8 for this machine for $39.95
and Microsoft offered the Media Center for free back in Jan 2013.

Can't play DVDs with WMP

I can.

Yeah, and you paid for it. Windows 7 has it.

Can't boot into safe mode when starting the computer (F8)

You can't? Been using Windows 8 since March 2012 and I never had the
need yet.

No, you can't.

No Windows update bubble

I get notifications when there are new updates.

A notification which you may not see is not the same as a constant
reminder in the taskbar.

Since upgrade to Windows 8.1 it is slow to recognize some plug and play
devices (if it even recognizes them at all)

Wow! I haven't seen this either.

Come on over and I will show you. Just 2 nights ago it took me forever
to get Windows 8.1 to recognize my TomTom so I could update it. Before
updating to from Windows 8 the second I plugged in my TT it was
recognized.

Any who cares about Windows tablets of course. And a Windows desktop and
a Windows tablet are the same. Same OS, applications, keyboards, mice, etc.

Even Vista did better.

Of course, this is in line with MS' good/bad, good/bad Windows roll out.

Win 98 good
Win Me bad
XP good
Vista bad
7 good
8 bad

9? If it becomes a rental in the cloud, so much for Windows; that's the
end.

There's nothing wrong with windows 8. Here's the thing i bet it is only
old people who are complaining about win8.

IE those who where around in the time of win 95.

And those old people are on the way out, so windows does not care about the
old only the young? As they are the ones who are going to be using it.

And they are the ones who have growen up with mobile phones.

No one like change!

Querstion how old are you?

Another question what can win7 do that win8 can not please provide a list.
of say ten points or more if you wish.

At 70, I probably am not the oldest, but I just posted that I thought
Windows 8.1 good system. On the other have being 70 and seeing things
come and go, I realize the initial hype about a system is not
necessarily the way things work out. Remember the Segway

FM radios was suppose to replace AM radios. CD was suppose to replace
the 78, AM radio is still going strong and there is still a market for
78RPM phonographs.

Think about this. Who made recordings that has the best sound
reproduction; Scott Joplin or Janice Joplin. Everyone just responded
"Why of course Janice Joplin, as she recorded on CD's" They forgot
that Scott Joplin recorded on a player piano which created the sound of
his music on a piano. So which is the better sound reproduction a piano
or a CD

Nonsense. It is so easy to hack into Linux. One easy way is to use a
buffer overflow and you are right into root. And you just leave your
rootkit and the user has no idea (and most users doesn't even scan for
malware). In fact, rootkit is new to the Windows world and *nix had them
for decades now.

I believe Windows 8 was a marketing failure not a failure of the basic

In the desktop interface Windows 8.1 is as good as any thing that MS has
released in the past, including Windows 7 and XP.

Even once you've found the desktop interface, as supplied it lacks a
start button with the functionality to which 500 million Windows users
are already accustomed. And guess what - the commonest complaint about
Windows 8 seems to be the lack of a start button. you are entitled to
your opinion of course, but it doesn't seem to be shared by many.

Geez... why do people claim that Windows 8 has no Start button? That
isn't true at all! It is still there, but they moved it to the Charms
bar. The same place you will find the Control Panel, Shut Down, Search,
etc. It isn't any big deal people.

Not even to the Charms. Every thing in the Start button is now a right
click on the MS icon on the Desktop Task Bar. You can shut down the
computer, access the control panel, network properties, printers, and
more than you could in the old start button.

You have a categorized list of your previously opened files by right
clicking on any program pinned to the Desktop Task bar.

What did you get in the old Start button that you do not get by right
clicking on the Ms Icon or the program on the Task bar?
