Default DVD Playback issues

After installing a new hard drive, motherboard and fresh
install of WinXP Home SP1, some of my store bought Dvd
movies will not playback in pc dvd rom (Artec #DHI-G40);
all will play on standard dvd player. Using Cyberlink
Power DVD XP Version 4.0. Drivers, Video and Audio
Codex, region settings, etc.. all installed.
All dvd's played back before upgrade of system. Dvd
drive will not even recognize some of the discs being in
the drive. My last alternative is a firmware update;
which could possibly render drive useless. True??
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Tks, Zverb
