Default Virus Scanner Off

Every restart I get this message
Virus Scanner Is Off

I click to turn it on and nothing happens.

How do I figure out WHAT virus scanner is running ?
So I can get rid of it and use what I want !

First I look for an article on Windows Defender, because
it comes with Windows 10 and should be running after a
clean install. Note that it has a setting, so that a
third-party AV can "take over the show" and Windows Defender
can be retired. If a third-party AV adds "DisableAntiSpyware"
to the registry, it can take over scanning duties.

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows Defender

DisableAntiSpyware DWORD 1 = Windows Defender is Off

*******

If some AV program you previously were running (Avast et al)
was removed by the most recent Windows OS Upgrade, then
the DisableAntiSypware was set to 1 by the AV program,
and now the AV program is no longer protecting you
and you have nothing. Windows Defender is turned off
via the Registry setting, and Avast was deleted by the
Windows OS Upgrade process. Now you have nothing, and
are receiving some kind of warning about it.

You can try setting dsiableAntiSypware to 0 and reboot,
and see if the fact that Windows Defender starts running,
that covers your ass.

Or, you can investigate the fact your copy of Avast or
whatever is missing, and reinstall that, and then the
error message will go away.

*******

After an OS Upgrade, take a look for C:\Windows.old\Program Files
or similar folder. And see what stuff has been dumped in there
by the overzealous installer. It deletes programs it doesn't
like and doesn't give advanced warning.

Just a guess,
Paul

John Kennedy said "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will
make violent revolution inevitable." Beware MS. We know where you
are.

Just a guess,
