Default Update keeps flagging KB2677070 required but it is incorrect for my system! What can I do to clear it?

Hi,
As the header says. I keep getting this error via the auto updater.
I tried installing but it fails with "error 800B0100"
So I follow all the other advice and it still wont install.
I then try doing an install from the MS website and it says its incorrect
for my system or somesutch and it mentions amd64!
I am running an Intel processor I7
I tried restoring to an earlier date but that wont work either.
This all seemed to occur after a java update but I cant be sure.
Any ideas how I get rid of the updater constantly saying I need it?
I am running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
Thanks.
Stuart.

It is an update referring to security certificate revocation, so it is
possible it has the wrong security info for the Java update, which could
be why you only noticed the problem when Java tried to install an update.

This Microsoft update seems to be fairly badly broken. Even if it
installs, there is apparently a possibility of the machine going into a
reboot loop. Try restoring to a date before it was first seen in safe mode.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...d-77e36ebe14b8

Mentions a possible cure for the reboot cycle problem, which may be
relevant. In summary, in case the link to the thread is broken:-

"YES, I had this as well and a spend a lot of time to find the root
cause and then solve it!

I solved it by going back to the restore point before the updates in
safe mode. restore and after the reboot check for updates and hide this
update so it won't be reinstalled.

Hope this works for you as well."

Step one is to dump that horrible newsreader and use a different one.
It doesn't really matter which you choose since they're all better
than what you're using now.

Just tell the Windows Update to not present this particular update and
to ignore it.

You might not be aware of a big problem with your quoting style.
The way your newsreader is doing it, when someone else follows
up, it looks like you *said* what you actually only quoted.

The problem is that Windows Live Mail 2011 (version 15) has a
quoting style that is completely broken. Unfortunately that poses
a painful choice to you: either fix every quote manually, or get
a real newsreader such as Gravity, Xananews, and Forte Agent (to
mention some that come to mind at the moment). OR, if you really
want WLM, some say that WLM 14 will serve; see "SC Tom" below.

update 2011-04-02: I've seen a newsgroup posting claiming you
can un-break WLM 15 by installing and using an Autohotkey script:
http://www.dusko-lolic.from.hr/wlmquote/

Thanks for your consideration!

You're doing fine, but if you prefer to stick with Live Mail then dump version 15
and try version 14:
WLM2009 ver 14
http://g.live.com/1rewlive3/en/wlsetup-all.exe

Easy. Open "Inbox" then right click and select "New Folder". If you do
that in any folder, you can create new folders in it. I've not noticed a
limit as to how deep the nesting can go...

The left hand pane on my Thunderbird desktop has folders and sub-folders
for half a dozen e-mail accounts on various servers, as well as another
set of folders for newsgroups.

If you have Outlook Express, then just "Import settings from OE" as you
install Thunderbird and your folder structure, e-mails, your passwords
and your account settings will import intact. To do the same from
Windows Mail, there's a third party tool.
