With all the iPhones and all the girls and boys being home for the
summer, Verizon just isn't hacking it. My second MiFi in now
defective. $79 a month for 15 gigs and between midnight and 5am is
completely free. Upload should be 3 gig speed and download 12 gigs.
Friday afternoon is the install.

Can't wait.

Agreed. We're not swamped here.

I found the original post interesting. Currently I'm using CLEAR
wireless Internet Service. It's slow, but I enjoy the wireless
freedom.

And speaking of off topic stuff and personal
satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the status quo...

I'm having a blast on YouTube. With all due respect, YouTube is
much more colorful and lively. Since Google is the moderator, my
posts are not etched in stone like they are here on Usenet, so I
will duplicate any "important" stuff here on Usenet. But the fun
factor is much greater (never thought I would say that anything
beats Usenet). Besides the lack of permanence, it's missing
threaded conversation that I value highly. But still, it's loads
of fun, with all the argument you can sink your teeth into.
Overall, I'm having no trouble with the channel moderation that's
done by the person who uploads the video.

I enjoy political discussion, but our Usenet politics groups
basically suck. The same posters are in every group regurgitating
the same thing in every post. On YouTube, there's always new stuff
and a few new people. There are trolls and sock puppets on YouTube
too, but I've always enjoyed sniffing out that stuff. And then
there's the fact that YouTube is the ultimate medium for sharing
information. Text is great, but pictures and videos rule. YouTube
has it all. Besides the discussion, it's the greatest
show-and-tell medium on Earth. To be clear, I am not expressing
any allegiance to Google or any other big company (I don't do that
sort of thing).

Well said. I am praying for them. I won't have to hear their
response because they are kill filed. That's the best tool around.

Unfortunately, in fact, kill files are pretty much useless. The
worst offenders are typically nym-shifting. Also, you end up
stumbling over everybody's replies to the person that you have
kill filed.

The most effective Usenet filter is to ignore a sub thread. That
is a thread branch or the whole thread, just depends on where it
starts. Agent began including it with version 4. It's the same as
ignoring a thread, but it just depends on whether it's applied at
the top of the thread or someplace within the thread.

I think you may be in for a slight disappointment when you check your
speed.

Apparently, a satellite based service ?

Ping is claimed to be 600 milliseconds.
Web surfing is going to suck.
Downloads, not so much.

http://www.jdhodges.com/wp-content/u...21-400x369.png

The SpeedTest results shows a ping of 736 millisecond.

Now that I have had it for awhile, I am happy with the speed,
whatever it is. (it is faster than I can type) The thing I notice is
that it is consistant day after day whereas one never knew what
Verizon would be with all the iphones out there. Now that school is
out, it must be way overloaded. And with my download manager, I get
as much as I need for free in the middle of the night. I am paying
$79 for 15 gigs whereas with Verizon I was paying $70 for 10 gigs
without any free at night.

Cheers back to you

I was told by the installer that the ping would not be realistic as it
also was with Hughsnet. Even with Verizon, the ping varied from
excellant (60) to outragous (900+) The important thing for me is the
consistancy and the fact that Wifey is very happy. Happy Wifey makes
for a happy hubby.
