Default No sound after instalation of new hard drive.

I recently had occasion to replace my hard drive and once back up and
running I have no sound? As far as I can tell I have a C-Media AC97 Audio
Device (a small pinkish brown box inside the tower?) and I am running XP
professional in a "Packard Bell" PC. The sound device has the following
number on it "0020ED49219F" and what appears to be the largest chip has the
following info on it "SIS, 961©, SIS'01, QM00422, 0231HA A2?

In the device manager there is the usual indicator of a problem and further
investigation seems to reveal a driver error. I located the C-Media website
and downloaded a driver and after installing it I am no further forward. The
device manager still identifies the problem as the driver, as I have made no
other changes I am not sure why I have this problem now and I would welcome
any help?

Thanks in advance

Please see my answer to your previous post. Please don't make a new post
on the same subject a few minutes apart - wait at least 24 hours.
People from all over the world are posting and there is a good chance
your answer will come from someone in a completely different time zone.
Keep posts about one subject in one thread.
