Again....You may do better asking the OP your questions instead of me.
There is no point replying to me as you clearly understand that I am
not the OP (TPWTP if you must be verbose)

My questions were, of course, intended for the person with the problem.
If that's you (by which I mean TPWTP, not Alan), what are the answers,
as they may help the rest of us sort out the problem.

I think you have email and newsgroups confused. My post was to the
newsgroup, not an individual email to you. So is this one. (If the
person who has the problem is reading this, please answer. Alan, please
don't!)

Allen, I believe, is talking about where your "post" (specifically newsgroups)
appears.

If you use OE, or a similar dedicated newsreader, and reply (to "groups" and not
"sender" we are still talking about here) to a post within the hierarchy, then your
"reply" appears next to the post you were reading when you clicked on the "reply"
button.

In other words; you must have been reading Allen's post when you clicked on the
"reply" button, and as a result your reply appears next to his and *not* as a reply
to the OP would have done.

To reply to the OP - open the [any] post sent by " and
click on the "Reply to Group" button.

It [still] makes a difference, even though you are still replying to the whole group,
which post you are reading when you click on reply!!

TO: John Gilliver

Are you some sort of loony?

Although I think myself rather brave in including my email I do not want you to send
me unsolicited personal emails just so you can prove, what exactly?

Just to illustrate [again] what both Allen (Edwards) and I are saying, *this* email
IS the correct way to reply to [one of] your posts.

Therefore (when viewed in OE or a dedicated newsreader) it appears NEXT to the post I
replied to (i.e. yours) and ONE level down in the hierarchy...

I cannot post a reply to the last mail you sent because you sent a *personal* email
to me!!!!

Please do NOT send any more personal emails of an argumentative nature to me again.

Many think so. However, I've been using newsgroups since DOS days, and
haven't met anyone with the views below before.

Although I think myself rather brave in including my email I do not
want you to send me unsolicited personal emails just so you can prove,
what exactly?

I have not sent you a personal email. If someone else has, they're
pretending to be me. All I have posted in this thread have been posts.
Unless I hit reply instead of followup by mistake, in which case sorry.

Just to illustrate [again] what both Allen (Edwards) and I are saying,
*this* email IS the correct way to reply to [one of] your posts.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This (the text I am replying to) is not an email, it is a post. It
appeared in the newsgroup microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers, where it
can be read by anyone who subscribes to the 'group.

Therefore (when viewed in OE or a dedicated newsreader) it appears NEXT
to the post I replied to (i.e. yours) and ONE level down in the
hierarchy...

I cannot post a reply to the last mail you sent because you sent a
*personal* email to me!!!!

Wasn't me! (You can send a private reply to this alleged email if you
want.)

Please do NOT send any more personal emails of an argumentative nature
to me again.

It takes two to make an argument!

Since the original poster has not responded to any of either your or my
posts, I can only assume that he's abandoned the thread because of our
discussions, or - I hope - solved his problem, either because of
something we've said or by other means.
