Yes, but it's an i3 processor. 2.1Ghz. I wouldn't touch win10 on a
1Ghz machine!!!.

My wife has a Sony 2.4Ghz i3 and it's as slow a hell. I put an SSD in
it and did a virgin load of 10 and got rid of all the Sony stuff.
Between the two it's usable at least.

I'm planning on using an SSD. If it's still too slow, I'll put Win 7 on it.

I would use that. With an SSD...

Download free media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

Use your COA license key, and it should select "Home"
from the OSes on that x64 disc.

By using the free media, you won't have to crack open
the cellophane on the OS you bought.

I've fixed several Windows 10, i3 laptops (2nd gen IIRC) with standard HDDs
& they ran ok.
I'm surprised yours is 'as slow as hell'. There's got to be something not
quite right especially as you've done a pristine install.
Just out of interest, did you wipe all the partitions?

Okay, "slow as hell" is an objective viewpoint. My laptop is an i7 4Ghz
and M2 SSD. So and i3 on a HDD is obviously slow. And that observation
was before the SSD with 5 years of never reloading it and with Sony
bloatware. And yes I wiped all partitions since I had to reformat the
drive from MBR to GPT before loading Win10.

Minimum requirements like those you post above, are accurate, but
*extremely* misleading. Try running Windows 10 (or 7, 8, or 8.1) on
such a machine. Yes, it will run, but so slowly as to be painful if
you do anything more than play solitaire on it.

And leaving aside the issues of speed, recommending that anyone run
any version of Windows on a computer with only a 32GB HD is a terrible
thing to do. Yes, Windows will fit on it, but not very much else.

Even my wife, who does little more than e-mail, solitaire, and an
occasional web search, uses 83GB on her computer.

Microsoft does everyone a disservice by posting only the minimum
requirements like that. On the same web page, they should also post
the minimum *practical* requirements.

I downloaded Win 10 Pro and it's on a pen drive waiting. I have a
license with a DVD but I prefer using a pen drive so I downloaded the
ISO and used Linux Mint's Image Writer to burn it on a pen drive.

You can run Win 10 on that machine but you'll struggle. Try upgrading
the memory to 8GB or if possible 16GB. apart from that your machine is
much more powerful than what some people are using. for example, I have
seen people running Win10 on DELL Optiplex 760 and this machine was just
about running Windows 7. After upgrading the Ram to 8GB all went fine
and that machine is more reliable than the latest Optiplex 7770
https://www.dellemc.com/resources/en-us/asset/data-sheets/products/desktops-all-in-ones/optiplex_7770_all_in_one_spec_sheet.pdf?newtab=tru e
or Dell Vostro.

You can always image your current drive and then install Windows 10 on
it and use it for 30 days to see if it has what you want. Alternatively,
buy a new HD and install Win 10 on it to try it. Your old drive can be
kept safe just in case you want to go back to Windows 7. Windows 7
updates will stop next January around 20th (20th January 2020). Most
companies and Universities have started upgrading their machines to
Windows 10. You are not quite new to Windows 10, are you?

It depends on how many "toys" you fit on it.

My laptop slides from "barely acceptable" to "not acceptable",
when you add a printer package and a webcam package.

That's how sensitive it is with just one CPU core.

The webcam package leaves a service running, even when
the webcam is unplugged.

The SSD improves boot time.

The SSD cannot improve situations where you are CPU bound.
