Boot Mgr
I was dual booting XP and Vista each on their own partition. I have removed
Vista but the boot mgr/boot loader still comes up and asks XP or Vista. How do I disable this so I start XP automatically? I tried what was described he http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022 But when I type bootcfg /default /ID# replacing ID# with 1. I get invalid command. |

you can install VistaBootPro and use it to edit the boot loader.

Personally i would use VistaBootPro (it is free) and as mikeysd has said in
his post edit the bootloader by clciking on the bootloader tab and clicking in the box next to the option to remove the bootloader. The microsoft option you are suing isn't working because you need to be in elevated mode to access bcdedit. Click startall programsaccessories. Look at the list in accessories and Right Click on the command prompt. From the menu that appears click on the 'run as administrator' option. Command prompt will now open in elevated mode and you should be able to use the microsoft command. If it still doesn't work, then use VistaBoot pro. -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Brad Sorry forget my last mail. I missed the bit where you had removed
Vista. Don't bother with the command prompt because what i have described will only work in Vista. Use VistaBootPro instead. Install it on XP and then use the bootloader option to remove the boot files. Sorry for the confusion. -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". Brad,
Do it this way: open the System Configuration Utility (SCU) which can be done by Start/Run/ type "msconfig" (less the quotation marks) and click "OK". When the SCU opens click the BOOT.INI tab then click the "Check All Boot Paths" button midway to the left side. You should get an offer to remove the invalid Vista Boot Path. Accept it and OK out.
