Default windows live messenger and Windows Messenger v5.1 on same vista machine

I use Windows vista and Windows Mail v6.0.6000.16386

Does anyone know whether it is possible to have both Windows Live Messenger
and Windows Messenger v5.1 operating on same vista machine?

Greetings,

You can, but Windows Messenger doesn't work properly on Vista and is not supported,
regardless if Live Messenger is there or not.

Specifically one major incompatibility occurs when a scroll bar appears in a conversation
window in Windows Messenger as the client crashes.
