AFAICT, your above reply is not marked off with the character ''.
This, to
all intents and purposes, breaks the thread. While WLM 2011 works
with HTML
posting, I am doing this in plain text. The news server I am using
accepts
only plain text posts and replies, so the news reader must be able to
handle
working in plain text. AFAICT, plain text replies are broken in WLM
2011 so
far to date. 'Using the latest version I could get my hands on:
Version 2011
(Build 15.4.3502.0922).

Thanks,
LS

Wow, your newsreader (Microsoft Windows Live Mail 15.4.3502.922) is
seriously broken. Adding the character to the quoted material when
you reply is the job of your client. It's not the job of the person
before you to whom you're replying.

Also, please don't try to separate your new text from the old text
with a "dash dash space" combination. That sequence of characters is
reserved for delimiting the signature. When a working newsreader
encounters that, it knows that everything after it can safely be
trimmed. In your case, it would have trimmed your entire reply.

If you'd check back in the thread, that was Jeff's sig that added it,
not "news.aioe.org". His newsreader just didn't delete it.

And lastly, fortunately for the rest of us, you're using a server that
only accepts plain text posts or we would surely be graced by HTML
from you. Please don't use HTML on Usenet.

But WLM 2011 turned the whole reply itself into a 'sig' and it showed
up grayed in Thunderbird. It comes from the fact that newgroup
replying is broken in WLM 2011. The '' is not appropriately added and
the replies are then are misread by the newsreaders.

LS

WLM doesn't handle delimiters correctly (Grayed out is good while
viewing, not removing everything after it in the Reply is wrong).
Neither did OE, but with that you could install OE-Quotefix.

No. I plan to continue with Thunderbird until WLM 2011 is fixed. When they
fix it I plan to switch back. I've used OE for many years etc. etc. and
was quite content, but I'm not going to use something that is outright
broken i.e. WLM 2011. So I will just wait.

Thanks
LS

I managed to "Restore" Windows Live Mail " using
the Restore point.. At first the message was saying :
"Unspecified error occurred during System Restore ( 0xc0000022)"
I ignored the message and preside normally - rebooting again after a
couple of
minutes. Then, the error message disappeared and Windows 7 OS seems to be
working fine together with WLM without this horrible "2011" ..-)

WLM 14.0 works like you want it to (it's the version I use). It's
available he
http://software.informer.com/getfree...ows-live-mail/

Thank you so much for posting this. I am so happy to have this version
back. Will not upgrade to any more WLM versions as this version does
everything I want it to.

Again thanks for the link.

Any time.

When I looked, it said it was no longer available... it was trying to go to
microsoft.com to get it, that's why I posted a second source. The site must
have changed it... good for them.

Had a quick look but could not find out so I uninstalled it. TIA

Copy WindowsMail from a friend's Vista PC and move it to your W-7 PC. I
used a flash drive. Maybe MS will smarten up and add WM to W-7 in the
future.

You're dreaming. WLM id great and here to stay. No going backwards.

"If it works - don't try to fix it" - WM works and it's not a step
backward.
What's wrong with having to chose between WLM and WM ?

Windows Mail is obsolete and is no longer supported. So don't expect
any bug fixes or security updates for WM.

What's broken? It works fine here.

That's because you're using an old version (14.0.8089.726). When MS
updated that they screwed up the reply delimiter (), so when you get
multiple replies in a newsgroup posting it is impossible to tell who
posted what!

[Hi Jeff:

I'm not sure what's going on with your WLM 15.4.3502.922. Your reply to
my mail is in pale grey as I read it in Thunderbird and didn't show at
all in this reply (I copied and pasted the above text between the [ ] so
you could see it. If you look at the posts before your reply, you will
see that they are all indented with,, and from my last post. I
always try to post (and read) in plain text.

If you look at the the reply from Dave "Crash" Dummy to my reply to the
Original Post from Lee Waun yesterday, what do you see? Are there any?

The dashes set the second part off as a signature i.e. grayed when
viewed in Thunderbird. WLM 2011 added that when I hit the reply to group
button. It did not add the '' character though (and therefore is
useless as a plain text newsreader program until they fix it).

LS

My newsreader, 40tude Dialog, also greys out the signature, thus kind of
obscuring the reply by news.aioe.org.

It seems lots of people like to add there comments after the signature
delimiter. I tend to ignore them.

I wonder - is there a setting somewhere in WLM to change the quote
delimiter character? Maybe it has the wrong default but can be altered.

Yes - in my version (Version 2009) under Options - Send - Plain Text
Settings there's a checkbox.

It's not the signature, though. It was WLM 2011 messing up the reply. It
is broken.

Now as to your question is there an option to change the dahses to
something else? Not that I can tell - you will have to contact
Microsoft, I guess. If you do, while you are at it, please ask them to
fix plain text posting in WLM 2011. Then I can use it again.

Thanks
LS

So what are you using now?

In one of my posts in this thread, I pointed out the delimiter for the
signature is an Internet standard (I said Usenet, which is probably only
partly correct). The correct delimiter consists of two hyphens, a space,
and a newline.

So neither you nor Lee Waun has a chance of getting Microsoft to change
it :-)

Why don't you try the new version of WLM and then tell me why it's
disliked so much. But that wasn't what I was talking about. I was
referring to Windows Mail which came with Vista.

I downloaded the new WLM 2011 and found I hated it. I really liked the

You can also move WindowsMail to W-7 and remove WindowsLiveMail.

Big mistake! WLM is far superior to WM. Maybe you just didn't bother
learning how to use it.

Superior how? What's to learn? It's fine if you have one email address and
one or two NSPs. If you have more it's a Royale PIA. The bells and
whistles don't interest me.

A quick
Google will show that many people hate WLM.

Not really. You'll see the first complaint posted and re-posted numerous
times.

We did so I loved WM from my
Vista PC to my W-7 PC.

Good for you.

Anyone not happy with WLM can keep WM if they like it. Not everyone gives a
hoot about all the stuff that comes with WLM.

..............

I have tried to install Windows Mail to Win-7 but in vane.

Install it under Programs (x86) or get the dll for 64-bit if your W-7 is 64
bit. Then install it under regular programs. It works fine either place.
32-bit under Programs (x86) or under regular programs if you add the proper
64-bit dll.

WLM 2011 is a complete disaster !!! How could Microsoft
did that to its customers? Shame... disgusting...

I agree. It really stinks. They ruined a good email/Usenet client. I hated
it and will not use it.
