Default #10 envelope print positions are wrong

I have an HP DeskJet 870Cxi printer, and, aside from the
odd blank envelope (typically the initial print attempt)
when printing from Word 97/Windows 98, I have always been
able to eventually get a #10 envelope printed with the
return and delivery addresses printed in the correct
locations on the envelope.
Now, with the printer attached to a Win XP machine's
LPT1, using the print driver supplied with XP for my
specific printer and Word 2000, I consistently get the
return and delivery addresses printed offset to the right
by 3 1/4 inches.
I have checked and double-checked the envelope print
options in Word 2000 - they are identical to those I use
in Word 97 on a Win 98 machine which uses the XP
machine's shared printer as a network printer. The Word
97/Win 98 machine prints the envelopes correctly - the
Word 2000/Win XP machine simply will not.
I have searched this issue at HP and MS and can only
conclude that the Win XP supplied driver has a glitch of
some sort.
Anyone seen this problem before?

WD2000: Envelope Feed Method Displayed Incorrectly
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=ofw2k

This from HP:

There are two ways to print envelopes on the HP Deskjet 800 series printers. Both
ways are described in the printers' User's Guides.
Printing envelopes from the single-sheet feeder
Slide the single-sheet feeder to the right to accommodate the width of the envelope.
Insert the envelope into the slot with the flap facing up and to the right.
Push the envelope forward until it stops.
Adjust the single-sheet feeder to make sure the right edge of the envelope is aligned
with the right side of the IN tray.
In the application's Page Setup screen, select No. 10 Envelope under Media Size.
In the application's Page Setup screen, select the Portrait icon under Orientation.
Select the OK button after making the above selections.
Print.
Printing envelopes from the IN tray
Slide the paper width and length adjusters to their outermost positions.
Insert up to 15 envelopes along the right side of the IN tray.
Push the envelopes forward until they stop.
Adjust the paper width adjuster and the length adjusters to fit snugly against the
edges of the envelope stack.
In the application's Page Setup screen, select No. 10 Envelope under Media Size.
In the application's Page Setup screen, select the Portrait icon under Orientation.
NOTE: The Orientation setting varies from application to application, so Landscape
may need to be selected instead of Portrait.
Select the OK button after making the above selections.
Print.

Default #10 envelope print positions are wrong

Mary ... thanks for helping out ...

I hadn't found the MS KB article link you have provided,
however, it had a more relevant KB link imbedded in it:
WD2000: Envelope Address Positions Not Retained Between
Word Documents
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;212130
However, after studying this latter KB article, I can see
that I would have to try to enter negative values in the
Format Style Modify Style Frame fields to
permanently adjust my Envelope Address and Envelope
Return print positions 3 1/4 inches to the left. I did
not want to permanently alter my WD2000 templates just
yet as this approach seems off point to me. I doubt if
WD2000 would accept negative values in these fields
anyways.

I had seen the HP article you provided and there is
nothing new there that would be relevant to my issue.

If this is a (Win XP provided) driver issue, as I suspect
it must be, I would think that it would have been noted
by WD2000 users and MS by now. Very odd.
