What does Task Manager report on the Performance tab for Total
Physical Memory?

What is being reported in Control Panel - System - General for total
RAM?

Task Manager says that my total Physical Memory is 2881696K and system
properties says I have 2.75GB. The only thing in the operation system that
shows the four g's is when I go to system Information. The AlienWare
manufatuer told me that windows would not recognize the other two gigs they
put in the system even thought the computer handals it. They just dont know
why.

Use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the BOOT.INI tab.
Click on the Advanced Options button
Make certain that the /MAXMEM= checkbox is clear and that there is no
value in the data box for this line.

Good luck

I am afraid I am fresh out of ideas on this one. I do know that some
aspects of Windows can report the incorrect amount of RAM under some
circumstances. However it has been my experience that the figure
reported in Control Panel - System - General is always accurate, and
it is the other places (Task Manager, System Information, etc) that
can sometimes be incorrect.

Running Windows XP with the maximum 4 gb is a bit of a grey area and I
have no hands-on experience with systems with that amount of RAM. I
do know that there are some issues with it that sometimes require the
use of a "/3gb" parameter in the boot.ini file but the specific
circumstances where this is needed, the consequences of not doing so,
and the proper way to implement this parameter in Windows XP have not
yet been fully documented, at least insofar as I am aware.

Good luck

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required
text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for
posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.

Hope this helps.
