Error 0x8007043C
I am having problems with my PC (Windows XP) and have run all my scans etc to
check for viruses and it has found nothing. (Ad-aware, Symantec, Spywareblaster also cleared out cookies and tif's, done PC disk clean up and defragged). My PC will start up but is then dead and I can't do anything. I can't even shut down - I have to switch it off manually (and even to do that I have to press and hold the button for about 10 seconds before it actually shuts down!!). I have left this msg whilst in safe mode. When I try to update Windows in safe mode I get this 0x8007043C error code. Have read all the questions and answers on here and the reply is always the same - you can't do it in safe mode. When that's the only way I can do anything at all with my PC, how else can I sort this problem pls??? If updating Windows won't help to sort out my PC, any other ideas other than sending it away to get it fixed?? All help greatly appreciated. |

You are running Norton Anti-Virus, the worst of all the available anti-virus programs, and Adaware, one of the poorer anti-spyware programs available. There's a good chance you are infected. Go to http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware and follow the instructions there. My PC will start up but is then dead and I can't do anything. All help greatly appreciated. Assuming this happened recently enough, you might still have a system restore point from before things went wrong - can you specify a date on which it was OK? If so, to get at system restore points, I usually use Start, Help and support, and it's the second from the bottom on the right side ("Undo changes to your computer with System Restore"); you can also get there via Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Once there, click Next, then select a date (one that is in bold), and follow instructions. System Restore won't solve all problems, but it's quite good at solving some. Assuming your system was actually making restore points (or you were); by default, unless you've turned it off, it makes one (I think) whenever it is started (or possibly one each day on which it is started). -- J. (Paraphrase from "The Moral Maze", 1998-11-21: it was an attempt - quite good I thought - to get a modern [and non-specific] version.) |
