Default Reinstall - Starting Over

I am currently in the process of rebuilding my personal
computer, i.e. new motherboard, CPU, memory, drives,
burners, video etc... I have heard so many horror stories
about once you install a certain copy of XP on your
computer the hardware is locked in somewhere and it will
not function if it is all together changed. So will I
ahve to call Microsoft and "unlock" my installation
before it will allow me online ever again? Or is this
something that doesn't really happen? I am going to reuse
my main hard drive, but due to some registry problems,
inadequate partitions, etc.,I am going to re-format and
start all over.
Any information or advice would be greatly appreicated.

This is the case. Change the hardware and then reinstall Windows on
top of the existing files by booting from the Windows-CD. Once you are
done with this you will be prompted for to re-activate the copy what
will work the same way as when you installed Windows XP for the first
time.
