hi, i asked a similar question to this last month, unfortunately a solution
wasn't found. all web pictures appear fuzzy, blurred or 'pixelated', the
pictures appear to be made up of small squares and are unclear. i have tried
the suggestions offered earlier but unfortunately these have not been
unsuccessful. i would be grateful of any further suggestions. any pictures
that i upload to my computer are fine, it only appears to be pictures on the
web that give me this problem. i am using XP sp2.
kind regards.

further to my initial question; i am also unable to view some pictures, for
example, even the Google logo on the Google home page does not show, all i
see is the place frame and a red 'X' in the top left corner. i hope this will
help someone to help me.
kind regards

Since you didn't post to your original thread or at least tell us what
you've already tried, all you can get are guesses now. So here's my guess:

If you have a dialup Internet connection, then you are probably using
some sort of "web accelerator" program provided by your ISP. Earthlink
uses one, AOL uses one. Etc. These "web accelerators" give the
*illusion* that your dialup connection is faster than it really is by
compressing images. You are downloading less data, therefore you think
the connection is faster. It isn't; you're just downloading less data.
Of course if an image that is really 1.5MB is compressed down to 150kb
the results will be pixelated and blurry. You can't see data that isn't
there.

If this is your issue, turn off the "web accelerator" function. If you
are unsure of what it is, contact your ISP's tech support or look on
their website for Help.

If the above is not your issue and my Crystal Ball(tm) was faulty, then
post back - to *this* thread and not a different one, please - with
missing details. See this link if you need help on what to include:

I assume you are using some version of Internet Explorer (which one?).
Try installing Firefox and see if the issue occurs with it. If it
doesn't, then probably some add-on you have installed in IE is causing
the issue. Run IE with no add-ons. I believe the option is under
ToolsManage Add-ons.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

Then I'm sorry but without being able to see the computer, I don't know
what is causing your issue. It might be best for you to have a local
computer professional take a look at it. This will not be someone from
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad. Get recommendations from friends,
colleagues, etc.

If you don't want to do that, then first determine that the computer is
completely virus/malware-free. Do this no matter what your family says
they didn't do. ;-)

If the machine is clean, do clean-boot troubleshooting to see if
something running in the background is causing the issue.

Hi,
When you right-click an image is there an option like "Show full quality?"
That would indicate the presence of an accelerator program.

Plan B... Display properties Settings Advanced set the DPI setting at
Normal (96 DPI)

Missing images is another issue. Let me know if the blurry issue is
resolved.

Hope this helps,
Don

hiya Don, many thanks for your response, i do indeed have an option 'show all
original images' and 'show original image'. my ISP state that they are not
using a web accelerator, but by clicking on this option i do get a clear
picture, thank you. i wonder if there is a way to permanently keep this
option of seeing the original image. or if there is some other factor that is
causing this problem? also i still have 'some' images that i can't view at
all. i would be most grateful for any further help you can offer me.
kindest regards.

Hi,
Is the Google Accelerator installed?
Other ways to find the accelerator:
1. Look carefully through Add or remove programs.
2. See what's running in the Notification Area (formerly the systray)
3. Ctrl-Alt-Delete, look at applications and processes.
4. Start Run msinfo32 Software Environment Running tasks.

Research unjknown programs/processes with your favorite search engine.
