Default Who is MVP?

Hi Len,

I think things are improving. But its been and is still quite a stressful
situation getting there.

Steve,

You wanted results too? You are asking too much. g

MVPs try to influence MS, but we really don't have very much influence at
all in getting things done.

I remember that also. There was a huge groundswell. G

Didn't do any good, did it?

Frank,

Amen! I'll never forget the "shell shocked" look on one MS VP's face

when
he
entertained questions about IE/OE at the 2001 MVP event! He looked

like
he
had just walked into the MVP version of a "shock and awe campaign"!

LOL

I guess someone misled him into thinking that we were going to be a
"friendly bunch" of "yes wo/men"!

"Fond" under? Freudian slip?

I was going to bribe Bill Gates to make me an MVP, and then realized
what a stupid idea that was. :-)

You want to try and bribe one of the richest people in the world, so
you can sit in this NG and answer the same questions every day for
years?

Now why would you think that was stupid?

Actually, I had two reasons. (1) How do you bribe a guy with all that
money? (2) Why would I want to answer the same questions over and over
again? I guess I just wanted to be an MVP -- *any* MVP. :-)

Well , actually I know what that term stands for , but here in msn news
groups there are a dozen MVPs, answering different messages
with various advices and instructions . Ok, that's a nice job
and I really do respect them for that. But who can really
say that any one that brings MSN [MVP] in his/her response
is a real MVP or ...?

I know a lot of people go through MVP's advices with full respect ,
even without thinking what they are doing..... But if some
instructions corrupt the follower's computer and make
corruptions , what?

Is there a practical way to identify the real MVP? Is it
enough to rely on what that message says because
the replier has typed a "MVP" at the end of his
response plus his name ( which is also available in Microsoft's
web page) .... ?

Any suggestion is much appreciated,
Regards

Stick around. Find out whose reputations are best. Not all are (yet)
MVPs. But most MVPs (except me when I'm being silly) are reputable even
before being nominated for MVPness.

There are so many responses, I hesitate to add more.
But, some parts of your question are both very good,
and also not IMO fully answered.

The official list lets you know names of MVPs mapped
to their designated area. Now, even that "designated area"
often does not tightly correspond with an individual's
activity and expertise.

The official list does not provide you with any information
that would help you validate a post as actually having come
from that MVP. In point of fact, there have been instances
of people that are not MVPs posting with the MVP signature.

Be assured, there are enough of us, and we know who we are,
that when a posting appears with an invalid signature, we are
most often "all over it". This includes postings in the thread,
and internal communications.

On the internet it is possible to make a posting look as if it has
come from any origin desired, at least to a cursory glance.
So, getting to know the individuals, their style and info quality,
is one approach to having some assurance. Watching how many
MVPs jump on a posting in a questioning way can also be a
clue as to whether we agree with the technical quality or the
precautions taken into account.

In the end however, it is your call. The volume of the newgroups'
postings makes it rather impossible for them to be moderated,
and the nature of the internet makes postings mostly anonymous
despite any return address or signature.
