O.T. - How can I delete Firefox add-on

Hello Paul, I tried it again with the new command: http://i57.tinypic.com/4vqtxt.jpg I don't know if I did this correctly since it didn't reveal any files: http://i60.tinypic.com/16c06ww.jpg so I typed what you gave me http://i58.tinypic.com/25i9nac.jpg and it gave this: http://i59.tinypic.com/152c0lg.jpg Robert OK, you missed the fact that there is a space in the command type= own The space character occurs between "type=" and "own". And the list of commands I gave, you are supposed to verify with "tasklist /svc", which service host or "svchost" is the suspicious one. Then, look at the entire list of services inside, such as "audioendpointbuilder". The purpose of doing these commands, is a temporary measure, to place things like "audioendpointbuilder" in its own private svchost. Then, the next time a svchost uses up a lot of CPU, you can look in Task Manager, get the PID. Using "tasklist /svc", if the svchost only had "audioendpointbuilder" inside, then you'd know for sure that was the one causing the problem. And then you'd Google for reasons that particular one was broken. When you're finished, you can put things back the way you found them, by issuing the sc command again, only this time the part on the end would be type= share And you would do that for all the ones that previously you used the type= own option. I re-read this page and saw that I did not leave a space after the equal sign, so I re-did it with a space and this is what it gave: http://i57.tinypic.com/14xjbb9.jpg Robert You missed the "end" part :-) audio pointbuild audioendpointbuild The Audio Endpoint Builder would be some piece of software that glues sounds from applications, to one of your sound output cards. It might include functions like a volume control for each application playing a sound. That sort of thing. Paul |

It shows Avast is on and I'm protected: http://i61.tinypic.com/b7dyc5.jpg Yes, but my point is that I had the same stuff on my computer previously and its never given me the Action Center message. So why now, especially as it shows Avast is working. Robert It's a software race condition and it is just slow getting started. You've already tried disabling shields and re-enabling shields, and that's about all the folks at Avast have to offer. As far as I know, the WMI Repository is the information store used by Action Center. Avast registers some information in there. Action Center reads it out. The scheme is something like that. In this example, you can see an attempt to verify the Repository is working OK. winmgmt /verifyrepository You would do that in an elevated cmd.exe (Run as Administrator). This is my result. http://i60.tinypic.com/ic08t1.jpg The commands that go with that, in cases where there is damage to the repository, include winmgmt /salvagerepository winmgmt /resetrepository but there is no reason to be interested in those commands just yet. The first command is safe to run, as all it does is check that the repository is consistent. Paul |

It seems I'm missing everything and not
doing anything right. I need to re-read your instructions. So I have to wait for a lag to do all of this? Right now I'm tired and my upper and lower ruptured disks are killing me as well as my sciatic nerve. Lets give it a days rest Robert |

Maybe when you're up to it, start a fresh thread, as this one is "going off the side of the screen". The objective here, is to try to gather evidence as to what is wrong with your setup. The "take= own" is used so services living in a svchost, can be separated. Then, the guilty one will stand out. So that's what that effort was about. Paul |

But I'll leave someone else tell you how and where to look, because I'm using a very old version of FF and Win98, so i'm sure I'd be telling you the wrong info. Or just use the SEARCH feature of Windows and search for a file called BOOKMARKS. It should be in a folder called Mozilla or FIREFOX. (or both). You are off the mark on all counts. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...ores-user-data There is actually an about:config setting that can help. browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML True and False is the default state. So as shipped, Firefox does not automatically keep a readable file ready for your usage. You have to change that setting. You can change that from "about:config", which is something you type in the URL bar. about:config is also accessible from the Preferences panel in the Advanced section, as the Configuration Editor or similar. As well as the JSON or JSONlz4 files, that I can't seem to figure out when Firefox consults or uses them (instead of extracting from places.sqlite). Paul |
