Default Outlook 365 has MAPI issues

Hi All,

I have a W-Nein, oops, W-10 customer that noticed that
his Outlook 365 will no longer take files sent to
it with MAPI. It says

"Either there is no default mail client or the current
mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request.
Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the
default mail client."

I have reset the default (control panel) to Outlook 365
and checked that MAPI was checked off. I set the default
to something else and set it back. No joy.

I can not figure out where in Outlook 365 to set it
to default.

There is no junkware on the computer (System Mechanic Pro,
etc.).

Any suggestions?

Many thanks,
-T

Heard M$ pulled an Outlook patch gone wrong, but
it did not seem to apply to Outlook 365.

It turned out that he was running 32 bit office 365 on
a 64 bit system. I did find what I thought would fix the issue,

https://community.spiceworks.com/top...cannot-fulfill

but when the customer saw me open the registry, he panicked
and decided he liked manually attaching files from inside
his compose window better that sending them from Windows
Explorer (MAPI) and having me do some mysterious thing he didn't
understand.

Those who like laws and sausages should never watch either
being made. Poop!

Although this does not help with the issues, here are my notes on
setting Outlook as the default MAPI client

Reference:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...c6a27ac?auth=1

Method 1:-Set as default within outlook.

1. Open Outlook, Click on File Options.

2. Under General, in Start up options group check the
option Make Outlook the default program for E-mail,
Contacts, and Calendar.

Method 2:- Set as default from control panel.

1. Navigate to Control Panel Programs Default Programs Set Default
Programs

2. Select Outlook under Programs list and click on Set as default.

3. Click Ok.

Method 3:-

1. Navigate to Control Panel Programs Default Programs Set program
access
and computer defaults.

2. Click on the arrow mark pointing downward next to Custom to expand
Custom option.

3. Under Choose a default email program, highlight Microsoft Outlook and
click Ok.

Feedback:

As it transpires, this is a bug in Outlook 365. No amount
of uninstalling, repairing, reinstalling, deleting registry
keys will fix this.

This is not a Windows error as MAPI work fine with Thunderbird.

So poop!

What I did to work around the issue was to create my own
custom "Send To" key call "Outlook" for the customer to
use instead of "Mail Receipt".

Aigoo!

-T

My notes:

Reference:
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/cre...d-to-shortcut/

To create a custom SendTo key for Outlook, place the following
shortcut in

%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Se ndTo

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c
ipm.note /a

Call it "Outlook"

Well, it could be Electronic Air Suspension, but I'll
pick this article at a guess.

I am not sure how that even applies to "Sent To, Mail Recipient"
